  1. No interest in getting in to an aimless theoretical argument with you Adam. Great that you’re super enthusiastic regarding TCFC, which is understandable as your brother seems to be flourishing there 👍🏻 However, I suspect both John and Truro City would have had serious reservations about the merits of taking that group of players in to the bottom trelawny league. Dave
  2. U8s where? Perranwell/Helston or at the CoE? Cos if it’s the CoE you’re referring to then that’s a potentially a whole different conversation regarding ethics… Some of the U18s that were originally Perranwell in the DJM that went on to become Truro U18, were playing SWPL the season prior to Truro Reserves being formed. Interesting that you are so convinced that they would have been willing to drop down so many divisions, to play in a Truro team. Especially when some of that original team have subsequently left to play at a higher standard, after 1 season in the st Piran’s league. I like John and wish him and Truro Reserves well if they are promoted to the SWPL, as whatever the age of their squad, if they’re successful they will have deserved it. But let’s not go rewriting history mate.
  3. Being sensible, that standard of player wouldn’t have played in Trelawny 3 or 4 would they? But, I suspect that’s where a fair amount of the resistance came from, established St Piran’s and SWPL clubs that felt they stood to lose out on attracting or retaining the county’s best young players.
  4. Good luck with this mate! You’re right that U18s is a vital age group for making the step in to open age football and the Kernow League U18 age group is a well run, competitive league. Hopefully there’s enough fwd thinking SWPL clubs in that catchment area with floodlights, that will be able to accommodate 2 Saturday teams and u18 home games on Monday nights. So you’ll be fending off the offers 🤞🏼 Dave
  5. Here’s an example from a Boxing Day fixture. The dressing room tap and showers were left running too. And another example from a fixture on 12th of November
  6. Seems a great idea in principle. In practice, I think it might put far greater pressure on the new league’s fixture secretary/s, so can definitely understand the suggestions that this needs to administered by County. Expecting a volunteer, however had-working and dedicated as they no doubt are, to administer the fixtures once players potentially “locked in” to only one team is a massive responsibility. Limiting dual registration will be a progressive move, IF clubs have regular Saturday fixtures. As an example, Falmouth Town Reserves in the period 6/8/22 - 22/10/22 had 4 Saturday fixtures out of a possible 12 Saturdays. In a landscape of dwindling participation, a team for whatever reasons, only playing a Saturday fixture 1 week in 3, can’t possibly be helping. So, I do think clubs should be careful of the unintended consequences of this move. Also, these changes do seem to put multi-team clubs such as Wendron and Torpoint at significant competitive advantage too, IMO. I can understand if some would argue deservedly so…
  7. Guidance for U18 in open age football attached to this post. Every time a club folds there are posts on this forum regarding how unreliable today’s youth are. The numbers of clubs in grassroots football are reducing rapidly. The drop-out rates of players post U16s are exceptionally high. We either take care of our U18s in open age football properly and invest in the game’s future OR if adults can’t accept that some things are more important than winning today’s game, then no U18s in a purely men’s league seems to be the way to go. Current solution seems to be failing at the moment, unfortunately. guidance---clubs-with-u18-players.pdf
  8. Hi all A massive occasion for Falmouth Town U18s in our first season in FA Youth Cup, as we host the U18 team of National league Torquay United in the 2nd qualifying round. As the only Cornish side remaining in the competition, we are extremely proud that the efforts of our U18 group allow us to invite you all to get behind our aspiring young Cornish footballers at Bickland Park under lights, as they test themselves against higher league opposition, with the F troop in attendance. Admission will be - adults £5, OAPs & 12-16s £2, U12 free of charge We hope to see you there Thanks and UTT💛🖤 Dave Turner Falmouth Town U18

  10. I actually think that this is a great idea that potentially supports the needs of players and both clubs. However, will it be possible to dual register across SWPL and Western League after impending restructure next season?
  11. A little ironic to assume that he doesn’t understand Penryn situation?
  12. Just been explained to me that there was no food after the cup final on Tuesday, so sorry for misinterpreting what was said above regarding that!
  13. Hi Eddie Do you think taking successive u16 groups from the Cornwall Centre of Excellence to play in Devon, helps the quality of the Cornish U18 league? From my perspective as a parent of a player that has played in both DJM and Kernow U18 Leagues, the standard (bar DJM games against Plymouth Parkway) is very similar. If you look at this season’s Truro U18 DJM league results they include 11-1, 8-0 and a couple of 6-0s, plus a game against 9 players. Contrast that Truro U18 cup games vs Kernow League teams - Perranporth 2-2 aet, won on pens and very competitive match in a 4-0 win vs Porthleven in Rathbone Trophy final. So, if standards of the 2 U18 leagues are very similar, what’s the benefit of taking up to 6 hours out of a Sunday for away games? Especially if some of the players are playing Saturday football already too? I definitely agree that Truro Reserves should be proud of their achievements this season, it was a massive learning curve that will stand them all in good stead as people and footballers. Easy for such a driven and talented group to possibly see it as failure, but I suspect in years to come they will look back and understand how much they learned and improved. Any adult clubs bemoaning the creation of this Truro Reserves team and subsequent loss of “their” youth players need to ask themselves why it was necessary? Were clubs doing enough to bring youth through themselves previously? Just because a large proportion of young players will leave Cornwall for further education, is that a justification to not invest in their development? However, it does seem that the nature of Truro Reserves’ entry into the league and the creation of a Truro vs the rest of the St Piran’s league mindset, has led to a situation where people are now throwing around words like “bias”, “bigotry” etc and young players are feeling everyone, including referees, are against them. Whilst “circling the wagons” like that might help you win games, it’s potentially helping worsen young players’ attitudes too, perpetuating the accusations that are thrown around regarding young players’ arrogance, entitlement and lack of respect etc. But, TBH those accusations would only be validated should a team full of young players not show grace in defeat and attend a clubhouse for food after a cup final loss, which seems to have been suggested above?
  14. Original post from 2018! I hope you’ve found a club by now @Hazza😂 @Adam Blacklercould you try and build a relationship with u18 teams, maybe Perranporth and St Austell could be close enough to you? I can’t imagine those club’s adult teams will have space for all the players, once they become ready to play adult football..
