CRIBBS MATCH REPOT

Recommended Posts

FT: Cribbs 0 Plymouth Parkway 2 (Trott 13, Carter 41)

Their 3rd consecutive away fixture saw Parkway travel to the well appointed Cribbs ground on the outskirts of Bristol. Continued player unavailability resulted in an unchanged line up from last week with again only 2 fit substitutes available.  Parkway started well creating a couple of early chances and on 12 minutes a fine sweeping move down the left ended with a precision cross being headed behind for a corner. Parkway continued to attack freely and took the lead on 13 minutes. A free kick around 25 yards out saw Jordan Trott curl a superb effort into the far corner. Cribbs continued to attempt to play out from the back but were being pressed quickly by the Parkway front 2 and hard working midfielders allowing them little headway. On 17 minutes good work by Tiegan Rosanquest ended with him shooting just over from distance. Parkway remained in control with Ben Joyce and Christian Pople influential in midfield, breaking up play and prompting numerous attacks. Cribbs eventually managed to get forward on 23 minutes winning a free kick 25 yards out only to see a weak header sail harmlessly wide. Parkway almost increased their lead on 36 minutes when another flowing move down the right saw Stewart Yetton cross to Rosanquest who saw his shot blocked. The increasingly impressive Rosanquest, playing in centre midfield, then had another shot deflected for a corner on 40 minutes. The Parkway defence rarely came under pressure allowing full backs Ryan Lane and Aaron Bentley to get forward in wide areas to support the midfield and attack. Parkway eventually doubled their lead on 41 minutes. A well flighted free kick from just inside their own half from Rob Farkins found Adam Carter who rose unchallenged on the edge of the 6 yard box to loop a deft header into the top corner. Parkway were good value for their lead with Cribbs competing well but lacking penetration in the final third and the Parkway defence looking solid and sound. The 2nd half started in dramatic fashion. Almost straight from the kick off a long ball caused confusion in the centre of the Parkway defence with a close range shot crashing off the underside of the bar and being hacked away to safety. Yet more sloppy defending from Parkway on 50 minutes found an unmarked Cribbs player free on the right only to see his close range, narrow angled shot cannon off a post. Parkway quickly recovered from the early scares and on 53 minutes Bentley saw his header flash just wide from a Yetton cross. Cribbs now looked a completely different outfit moving the ball around well in midfield and creating another chance on 55 minutes which Kyle Moore just managed to parry away. Cribbs had a decent period in possession forcing the Parkway midfield deeper with the strikers becoming isolated and the defence coming under more pressure. On the hour Parkway did manage to break away and a fine run into the box by Mikey Williams saw his close range shot well blocked by the keeper. The game continued to flow with Cribbs looking marginally the better side but lacking a cutting edge. The Parkway defence, with captain Farkins in imperious form, continued to come under pressure but managed to stifle the Cribbs attacks. Parkway were now being restricted to breakaways and on 65 minutes Carter was sent clear but saw his left foot shot go narrowly wide. Mike Smith replaced the hard working Carter on 69 minutes as Cribbs continued to see plenty of the ball in midfield with Parkway battling to close them down and restrict their chances. A series of quality crosses from the right by a Cribbs substitute caused problems as Parkway were forced to defend in numbers and at times desperately. Connor Mcauley replaced Yetton on 81 minutes with Cribbs continuing to push forward and Parkway looking to see the game out to it's conclusion which they did despite more Cribbs pressure. An entertaining game which saw two sides of Parkway. Dominant in the first half creating numerous chances through a creative midfield and a penetrative attack and a resolute second half showing good battling qualities and defensive strength when under considerable pressure. The win sees them climb to 6th place, 3 points behind the 3 early leaders who all have 9 points. Parkway can now look forward to a run of 3 successive home games starting on Wednesday with the visit of Wellington in the league. Larkhall Athletic from the EVO Stick Southern League, Division 1 South (step 4) then visit next Saturday in the Preliminary round of the FA Cup followed by fellow Western league outfit Brislington in the 1st round of the FA Vase on Saturday 1st September.
