Torpoint Athletic 2-1 Sticker

On a damp night at the Mill, Torpoint faced a Sticker side who had in their last 3 games beaten and then drawn with Lostwithiel and also drawn with St Mawgan while Torpoint had gained wins over Saltash and Lostwithiel since their Junior Cup Final match against St Stephen 2 weeks ago.

Torpoint started the stronger and doninated the first 20 mins with Ben West hitting the bar from 35 yards after the ball was lost and the keeper off his line, unfortunately for the home side it hit the underside of the bar and stayed out.

Torpoint gained the lead mid way through the half when the ball was picked up by right back Adam Brayson who played a precision ball down the right wing, after some short sharp passes the ball was slotted to torpoint torpedo Will Ferguson who patiently waited to place the ball over the advancing Sticker keeper and into the net.

After this the home side didn't capitalise on the lead and Sticker came more into the game with some good switch play and had a flick shot saved at close distance after a cross and then a top corner bound shot tipped around the post by home keeper Richard Bond.

Then came some drama with the last play of the half. The ball was bouncing around the Torpoint area after a cross and tackles flying in from both teams. A tackle from defender Danny Rodgers was penalised as coming through the side of a Sticker striker and a penalty was awarded (although it was head on and the ref to many couldnt have had a clear view due to the amount of bodies in the area). Up stepped the Striker to slot home with the last kick of the half.

The 2nd half saw Torpoint really attack And the away team were on the back foot for 25 mins with the keeper making some important saves to keep his team level. Then came a moment of redemption for Rodgers who hit a left foot volley in to the left corner of the goal after a corner to give the home team a 2-1 lead. Fergusson hit the post after this for Torpoint, then had 2 shots well saved after causing problems for the Sticker defence all game.

Sticker didn't give up and had a shot cleared off the far post by right back Brayson and then an effort from the edge of the area again tipped away from the top corner by Bond.

Sticker played some really good passing football and were always in the game while there was 1 goal in it but Torpoint ground out a win that sees them Climb to 2nd in the table.
