pastyman
Saturday 30th September 2017 Saltash United v Falmouth Town(home) SWPL Premier Division Lineup:Rickard,Barker,Martindale,Menhenick,Lewis(c),Wilson, Farrant,King,Hughes,Phillips,Bass. Subs used:Young for Phillips(11 mins),Trott for King (66 mins) & Leary for Bass(72 mins). Unused subs:O'Brien. Bookings:None. Result:Ashes 3 Falmouth Town 0 Scorers:Farrant(53 mins),Young(59 mins) & Hughes(85 mins). Referee:Oliver Green On a very wet and soggy pitch with constant drizzle the visitors looked the better side for the first 45 minutes. It wasn't a case of the Ashes being poor it was a case of Falmouth being good. With the adsence Ryan Richards Lee Phillips started up front for the Ashes and after just 5 minutes had the ball in the net but it was ruled off-side. Phillips only lasted 11 minutes before he was forced off with a calf injury. The half belonged to Falmouth and from a corner on 22 minutes a header hit the post and Falmouth kept creating the chances with the Ashes offering very little up front until the 42nd minute when Jamie Bass went on a great run down the left, the Falmouth keeper came off his line Bass got a cross in for Sam Farrant to get his head to the ball only for it to be cleared off the line. The Ashes came out for the second half and looked a different team and after 53 minutes on the clock a Henry Wilson shot hit the post,Sam Farrant followed up and scored.Just 1 minute later and Sam Hughes was pulled down in the penalty area but Farrant put the spot kick high over the bar. The Ashes didn't have to wait long for a second goal,on 59 minutes a Callum Martindale cross from the left was forced home by Lewis Young at the far post. The one good chance for Falmouth came on 79 minutes but Ryan Rickard was equal to it and made a very good save.Back came the Ashes, the ball was played to Sam Hughes who shrugged of all challenges to force his way into the area and score. There was still time for the home side to push on and the visiting keeper had to make a fine save from Farrant and then a Wilson goalbound shot was deflected wide.A good three points after being second best for 45 minutes. Individual errors, suspensions, injuries, are probably the reasons. Lewis Russell leaving obviously had some effect.
