Probus 4 - 1 St Day

Overall a closer game then the score probably reflected, although with the home GK being relatively untroubled in truth.

A single goal in the first half, a good header past the St Day GK by Sam Hadfield.

The 2nd continued similar to the first and Probus went 2-0 with a well taken effort by Mark Sherris, before St Day pulled one back with a free kick on the edge of the box. It was Probus that reacted and scored a further 2 with Sam Bullen and Stu Rowe rounding off a good opening day.

Well refereed with few contentious decisions requiring any attention. Good luck to St Day and hopefully the start of more to come from Probus.

Trelawny 1

Lanner 1 (1) Hayle reserves 3 (1)

For the first half Hayle were much the better side and although lanner worked hard there was very little in the way of clear cut chances created. After Hayle took the lead, we fought back and against the run of play, the industrious Josh Holness won, and converted, a penalty to make I level at the break.

In the 2nd half, chances came and went at both ends before Lee Goldstone converted a Matt Doble corner. The celebration was short lived however, after the ref ruled it out for an obvious (?!) push.

Obviously ( I wasnt in ear shot) but would imagine Lee said something along the lines of "Pooh referee you blighter" and was promptly sin binned as well.

So instead of being 2-1 up we found ourselves all square but down to 10. For 8 minutes we defended well but in the last 2 minutes of the sin Hayle took the lead. Chasing the game after Hayle broke and scored their third.

Afew bookings dished out but not a nasty game by any stretch.Well done to Hayle for taking the points and good to see them back at the coppice after. For us, an early lesson on not letting our frustrations show on the pitch.

Peggy78 - wasn't at the game - but sounds an even contest.

Irrespective of whether right or not,  your excellent match report does highlight that the 'sin bin' can affect results - therefore teams may cut down dissent - therefore the game we all love may become better?

Real shame it cost your lads, but may help others to take it seriously? Good luck for the rest of the season.

Thank you for your comments.

I hope in general that dissent is reduced as a result however I feel that a degree of flexibility should be applied depending on the scenario.

A team chasing a ref around a pitch arguing a decision (I think to Keane led utd and Terry's Chelsea as prime examples) should be shut down as soon as possible. A player upset if he thinks he has just given his team the lead only to find out he hasn't may be expected to mumble some discontent. That is not necessarily dissent, just frustration.

Think you are totally right and as always depends on the ref - frustration is not always dissent - taking a positive though, maybe some of the more 'vocal' players may think twice before saying anything????

Division 2

Gwinear 1 (Duane Britten)– 2 Storm (Ricky Moon & Barry Penfold)

Sorry for the late write up, have been enjoying the sun over the weekend, not received much of it this summer have we…..

This game was all hyped up to be a complete blood bath, that much that we saw a guest appearance from David James of the league to pounce on us should any misconduct happen, always good to know the league are keeping an eye on these types of games……

What people didn’t realise is football is just a game played in good spirit amongst friends, Made a lot easier with a ref that keeps up with play and interacts with players.

Gwinear welcomed last year’s squad back to the club, in the form of Storm FC, predictions of a kicking match, referee having a tough time, trouble on the side-lines, well sorry to disappoint, this was a game of football and what a good game to watch.

Obviously both managers wanted to win, to get one over on the other and prove a point and that’s exactly what Storm Manager James Isaacs did, he came to our ground with a squad filled with great players and great attitudes and went away with 3 points.

The game started off slowly, both teams looking to play football and enjoy a sunny afternoon in Gwinear, Gwinear soaking up a lot of pressure and allowing Storms midfield of Shaun Isaacs, Johnny Jones and Ryan Baber to control the whole game, which they did with ease.

No real efforts to talk about but Storm looked dangerous from the long throws and this is where there first goal came from, Gwinear’s old striker Ricky Moon scoring with his head from a long throw into the box, great finish and no celebration from the striker, great show of respect to his previous manager Alan Williams, who could be seen clapping on the side-lines.

That was all the action in the first half, second half was quick to start with again Ricky Moon causing trouble up top for Storm and winning a penalty, up steps Barry Penfold who slammed the ball into the top corner, not leaving Jamie Jose a chance in the Gwinear goal.

This second goal seemed to get Gwinear out of the blocks and they started throwing everything at the Storm defence, who held out until the 60 minute, Duane Britten closed down Barry in the centre of Defence for Storm, won the ball, sprinted through and slotted past the Storm keeper, 2-1, finally a game that broke into action.

Storms front man Ricky Moon still causing trouble but Gwinear’s defence were holding strong allowing their midfield and front men to push forward, end to end action from both teams in the last 20 minutes, but Gwinear couldn’t find an equaliser and Storm couldn’t kill off the game with a 3rd goal.

Referee had a great game, explained the sin bin rules, which wasn’t needed as both sets of players respected his decisions, all in all a very good game and if both managers can keep these teams playing football then both could have a good season in Division 2.

Next up for Gwinear is Newlyn Lions on Wednesday night at Gwinear, welcoming back Ali Thomas back in our defence, club captain Gavin Russell back into CM and Torran Campbell in the front line, three players we massively missed on Saturday and a welcome addition for this midweek game against top of the league Newlyn…….

Mousehole by far the better side, first 10 minutes even.

With you having 2 one on one chances in the first 5 minutes could of been a different story good saves from our keeper. Credit to your boys they never gave up even if it was 4-0 at halftime. Have to say the ref was brilliant one of the best I have had in the 8 years of playing. Always love playing on your pitch was gorgeous! See you Saturday pal.
