stevieb
Just watched Big Match revisited on BT West Ham v Everton , from April 1977 , Goalkeepers without gloves , one sub , Muddy goal areas ,. Big surprise yellow cards ? Two replays of a Beckham type lob , and indirect free kick for the keeper taking to many steps , back passes ( Liverpool trade mark ) . No arguments with the ref , no falling or rolling around after a foul , players allowed to stay on the pitch after treatment . Players here like Brooking , Devonshire , Pop Robson , Latchford , Bonds , doing the business on a pitch which wouldn't be seen now days , No pushing shoving berating the officials . A big difference to today with a More technical game and better stadia and petulant behaviour ,. This and MOTD apart from Sportsnight was the only football you could see the only live game was the FA cup final or the occasional international game . Not all progress in football has been good .
