Guest
1977/78 dawned a new age for Cornish football. The re-structuring of the Cornwall Junior Cup meant the end of the group stages and straight to the east-west knock out tournament. It was also the first time the Junior Cup Final would be played before the Senior Cup Final on Easter Monday. Pendeen Rovers triumphed against St Kew on Easter Monday but back to the first round, these are the first round games: I'm sure some of the teams will bring back memories. EAST Boscastle v Endeavour Callington YACOB v Wilcove Darite v Menheniot Dobwalls v Stratton United Res Fowey v Riviera Coasters Landrake Res v Bude Town (Res?) If there was a repeat of this, they would be barred from entering any junior league.
Brianmooreshead
You are absolutely right Willow Tree - I have wonderful memories of the Junior Cup. Played in that round - Pretty sure that we got knocked out by St Kew in a later round. Some lovely old team names there that haven't been around for many a season. Guest
I'm guessing Stan Stag were either a company or a pub team. Were Redjackets based at the Camborne pub?
Brianmooreshead
Funnily enough we lost to Stanstag the next season 2 - 1 . They played at South Petherwin.Quite likely something to do with a pub / social club there. Their pitch had telegraph lines running across the top corner. Whilst I scored our goal another of my shots managed to hit the phone lines !!
Soccer Follower
Where did Polruan use to play? Not much level ground in the village and i have an idea they played in Fowey but may be wrong.

You could see Mevagissey on a clear day, if you could'nt see Meva then you were in for a wet afternoon.!!
Dave Deacon
Yes can remember playing against Polruan and definitely their side of the Fowey estuary!
Brianmooreshead
If I remember correctly, it was a farmers field and was often used to graze sheep. Part of the pre match proceedings was to remove any recent " deposits "
Martin Eddy
Yes and i am struggling to remember where they played may have been next to the rugby ground where the school is now
Brianmooreshead
I have recently been informed that the Stanstags team was so named as the farmer that allowed the team free use of his field was a Mr Stan Cobbledick - Hence Stans Stags Cant vouch 100 % but that came from someone who lived in the area
