Take over at Torquay.

Didn't know it was April 1st

The Board of Directors met yesterday to discuss the proposal put forward by TUST (Torquay United Supporters Trust) regarding Community Ownership.

TUST had requested that the Board grant a period of two months exclusivity to them in order that they are able to proceed with the Community Share Issue. After a lengthy meeting in which the Board discussed the Community Ownership issue and other offers made to the club by private investors, a final decision was made regarding the direction the Board would take.

The Board of Directors does not feel that they are able to grant an exclusivity period to the TUST due to the nature of the offers received by other investors. The idea of Community Ownership has not been precluded; merely a period of exclusivity is impractical at this stage. The Board would like to assure all supporters that they will endeavour to get the best deal to take this club forward.

A good question over on the Official Forum, "......Do the rules on multiple club ownership apply at our level?"  I don't know the answer for sure but didn't Truro's promotion 2 seasons ago prevent Masters from owning or part owning both clubs?  If so, then presumably if he got Truro relegated this season dual ownership could be back on the agenda.  But to do that you would have to do things like:

  • Get rid of a successful manager
  • Appoint new manager who has track record of getting club relegated with limited player budget.
  • Provide limited funding to manager
  • Get rid of the better players in your squad
  • Replace them with short term loanees who have limited commitment to the club
  • Demoralise players and fans

But doing such things would be madness and surely no responsible owner could allow such things to happen?  Oh hang on a minute..............

Interesting that the new Truro website shows Jason Masters as company director and Kim Masters as company secretary yet Companies House records only have Peter Masters and Philip Perry man as being the only registered directors/secretary.Misleading or is it preperation for the inevitable exit strategy..?
