oddballs
A chilly windy damp afternoon at Ironmould Lane which has a very wide pitch with unusually, at this level, covered accomodation on all four sides of the ground. Although being the biggest this season so far, the crowd was poor with only about 10-15 City supporters amking the long trip. City started off slowly and without much conviction although Brislington didn't really get into City's half for the first 10 minutes. On 2 minutes City had a corner which came to nothing after a defender had nearly cleared into his own net. A minute later Yetton was fouled and the resulting Walker free-kick was cleared by the home defence. On 5 minutes Jake Ash moved strongly across the field and slipped the ball through to Tolley who was brought down by Danny Borwood. Tolley neede some attention then Yetton tooke the penalty which was easily stopped by Nick Yeo in the home goal diving to his right; Yetton following up then hit the rebound against the crossbar. On 11 minutes, brislington had their first real attack and a crisp shot from paul Lucas was well saved by Jason Chapman diving full-length to his left. 4 minutes later Marcus Martin moved forward strongly and slipped a through ball which narrowly evaded Tolley. On 19 minutes Jake Ash forced a corner after a strong run down the right but it was well cleared by the home defence. Quite out of the blue, a minute later Brislington were awarded a dubious penalty. Harris half-cleared a centre and what looked like a clear 50/50 ball outside the box between Ash and John Lock ended with the home player falling in the box. The same player took the spot-kick and put it away well to Chapman's left. This seemed to spur City on for the rest of the first-half. Vercesi shot just past the post after a part-clearance. Another 5 minutes and a long through ball was chased by Yetton and the goalie cleared against his own defender for a corner. Gosling took the corner which was cleared to Danny Harris who passed it back across the area to Marcus Martin who shot narrowly wide. In the 33rd and 35th minutes Martin had two long-range efforts, one straight at the keeper and the other narrowly wide of the left-hand post. Another minute later, a centre by Power was cleared to Tolley who laid it back to Yetton who shot against the base of the post with the goalie beaten. In the next attack a through ball from Broad was shot by Yetton but his effort again struck the goalie. Vercesi then headed over from a centre by Tolley. In the 41st minute in a fast breakaway, Broad sent a great pass down the right for Gosling to chase, he beat his full-back and centred to the far post for Walker to head home powerfully. A minute later, Tolley laid the ball across the box for Vercesi who shot against the goalie's feet when it seemed easier to score. Virtually on Half-Time, Ash made a run down the right and his low centre evaded everybody in the box when it only neede a touch. Straight from the restart, Martin strode downfield and his strong shot was deflected into the goalie's arms. On 48 minutes Tolley headed over from a Walker cross. 8 minutes later, Power was fouled by James Peart who showed his displeasure which resulted in both being booked. On 60 minutes, a good shot by Yetton was saved low-down by Yeo. Four minutes Brislington broke clear down the left and their shot was well saved by Chapman at his near post. On 65 minutes a long centre from Walker was cleared by the massed home defence but it fell to Gosling on the right who centred it again for Yetton to head home over the keeper. In the 72nd minute, very much out of the blue, Brislington were awarded another penalty much to virtually everybody's surprise. Subsequently it was established that it had been awarded for a shirt-pull by Power. John Lock again converted the penalty this time to Chapman's right. Broad was booked for protesting about the penalty. Reski came on for Vercesi on 79 minutes. On 81 minutes, Broad who was bossing the midfield put a ball through to Tolley who appeared to be brought down but nothing was given; the ball broke for Martin who crashed a shot against the crossbar with the goalie beaten. Tolley was booked for protesting. On 83 minutes Gosling headed just wide from another Walker cross On 85 minutes after a good passing movement Walker crossed but the ball was completely missed by Yetton. In the last minute from another Walker cross, Tolley headed against a defender. Although City played a lot of good football, they can only blame themselves for not taking maximum points as they created enough chances in the last 20 minutes of the first half to have wrapped up the game by half-time. They were too often frustrated by the home defence who spent most of the last 15 mintes just kicking the ball as far as possible from their goal. Apart from the two dubious penalties, they only had two shots on target in the whole match. Mike Odgers
Is that the same Tom Chambers who was at Falmouth a couple of seasons back? If so, a fine young prospect in the cool controlled "Bobby Moore" image and good news following a serious injury which kept him out most of last season. Guest ggr_garth
Yes it is, good to see the big man back after his bad injury. He has been banging in the goals for the second team, has all the attributes to be a first team regular at Treyew Road.
Dave James
.how long before the cheque book comes out again then ... 2 games without a win ..not good enough some may say . even the manager must be having sleepless nights waiting for the dreaded `Vote of confidence ` from Heaney Is it around this time of year that the last 2 managers have disappeared ?? :o
Guest tom@white tigers
City have come out of two tough away games with 2 points which is not as bad as it could have been. Hopefully they'll get back to winning ways on Tuesday.
Paul
Surprised only 10 - 15 Truro fans made the long trip!! Still good to see new grounds, why so few go?
Guest Hayle Caesar
I reckon the 328.8 mile round trip might have something to do with it.
Dave Deacon
So are we saying then that when (or if, depending your standing with what Truro are doing to do) Truro get further up the pyramid system and the travelling becomes even more, they are unlikely to have any travelling support? Deano11
what was the final score ???
Xembla
The final was 2-2 -- for the second match in a row! .how long before the cheque book comes out again then ... 2 games without a win ..not good enough some may say . even the manager must be having sleepless nights waiting for the dreaded `Vote of confidence ` from Heaney Is it around this time of year that the last 2 managers have disappeared ?? Everybody knew the Premier division would be tougher, and nobody's pushing any panic buttons -- and the first draw was an escape, given its circumstances, so we've actually got some things to be feeling lucky about! Guest Hayle Caesar
I think that the reason Cornish sides will always struggle to get the away support (except for major games) is because the catchment area is so small. We are at the end of the country and this makes travelling to away games a hardship, the majority of league clubs are pretty central. If Truro City was based in Bristol (for example) the traveling support would be greater because of a larger catchment and a more central location. It doesn't mean to say that the support isn't there, it just means that every national away game would have the 2 hours extra as standard just to get out of Cornwall & Devon. Something a centrally located team doesn't have to contend with. Everywhere is so close once you get past Exeter!
St Darren
Thats part of being a supporter though Caeser The travelling is part of it. Carlisle v Argyle on a Feb Saturday for me back in 2001, was a cracking day out if you support a team, you'll go anywhere
Xembla
I know why I didn't go, but . . . But, St. Darren, don't you find that things like jobs, family, etc. impinge on your freedom of travel? Surely not everybody, not even the most dedicated fan, can drop everything and travel halfway across the country?
