I have been slagged off by some posters as to why I am glad Truro did not get their planning permission passed.

The main reason is I want to see a "Stadium For Cornwall" either in the Truro area or perhaps nearer to St Austell up in the clay pits. This will be for everyones use not just one team.

Truro City could play their home games there as could Cornwall (both rugby and football), the Cornish Pirates, The Cornish Sharks American Football Team, and Newquay Ladies (oops sorry Truro ladies). It could be used for pop concerts, etc.

Treyew Road to stay where it is for Truro's Combo games, youth games, Newquay ladies 2nd team and the park and ride.

A Stadium for Cornwall could hold the Senior Cup Final, Charity Cup Final, Sports meetings, community events, the Cornish Gorsed, etc.

Something for Cornwall to be proud of, funded by Lottery Money, FA Development and European cash.

Something that big would benifit the whole of Cornwall

I only registered to join in the predictions for a bit of fun, but this Truro thing: the human condition is such that faced with a particular set of information, different individuals will come to completely different conclusions. It is such a shame that the elected mandarins of Cornwall wouldn't recognise a good thing if it jumped up and slapped them in the face. Eventually that land at Kenwyn will be developed - later, if not sooner. And it will be dense housing or factory buildings, not the open spaces of a sports field.

Durham City FC play at a magnificent purpose-built ground on the edge of the city. They used to have a ground near the city centre but sold it (to a supermarket, I think) and bought the plot where they now are, with enough change to build their new ground: so good that Sunderland use it for their 2nd team games, or did a few years ago if not now. The supermarket would have made their money out of the deal with the income from their new store, if supermarket it was.

For Durham, read Truro. For supermarket, read Heaney. The correspondent who pointed out that really talented lads have to go to Plymouth (and beyond) to progress through the game was spot on. If Truro or anywhere else in Cornwall offered, say, Conference if not Football League standard football then - der! - any Cornish lad good enough would benefit. So "Cornish football would benefit".

Heaney may be a businessman but even an old socialist like me realises that capitalism creates employment and if Mr Heaney ends up a bit richer in exchange for Truro City having first class training and playing facilities that will be used by hundreds of players in any one year, then fine. Those who want Mr Heaney NOT to be any richer as well as Truro City NOT having top class facilities and just a Combination team are exceptionally sad and negative people who really ought to seek help.
