Dave Deacon Posted July 12, 2011 Report Share Posted July 12, 2011 This season will be the 7th year as a pre-season football tournament between Falmouth Town, Penzance, Porthleven and Helston in memory of Dave who played for the above clubs as well as representing Cornwall but sadly passed away at the age of only 36. All proceeds go towards Cornwall Hospice Care and Cancer funding for Cornwall. Dave was not only a great player, but a fantastic character as well and it says it all that he is still so fondly remembered by the footballing public of Cornwall. THUR 21 JULY2011. PENZANCE V HELSTON K.O 7.30 ( was changed fromFriday 22nd to Thursday) SAT 23JULY 2011 FALMOUTH V PORTHLEVEN K.O 3.00 TUE 26 JULY2011 HELSTON V FALMOUTH K.O 6.45 WED 27 JULY2011 PENZANCE V PORTHLEVEN K.O. 7.30 (was changed from Porthleven to Penzance) FINALS DAY AT PENZANCEFOOTBALL CLUB ON SATURDAY 30 JULY 2011 PORTHLEVEN V HELSTON K.O 2.00 PENZANCE V FALMOUTH K.O 5.00 The presentation of the DAVE GARDNER TROPHY will then follow soon after the end of the second game. le boss Posted July 20, 2011 Report Share Posted July 20, 2011 ANYBODY WHO HAS EVER PLAYED FOOTBALL IN CORNWALL IN THE LAST 20 YEARS WOULD SURELY HAVE BEEN TOUCHED BY DAVE IN SOME WAY EITHER ON OR OFF THE FIELD. PLEASE TRY AND ATTEND AT LEAST ONE OF THE MATCHES - THINK IT WILL BE QUITE COMPETITVE THIS YEAR - AND SUPPORT THE WORTHY CAUSE AND SUPPORT SHARON AND THE GIRLS. Mike Odgers Posted July 22, 2011 Report Share Posted July 22, 2011 First result Thursday 21st.July Penzance 2 Helston Athletic 2 Anyone know the goal scorers ? next game Saturday 23rd.July Falmouth Town v Porthleven 3-00pm Bickland Park Manchester born Dave Gardner (Age 20) joined Falmouth from Penzance in 1987 as a striker by manager Dave Wadd. With new manager Trevor Mewton soon to arrive at Bickland Park, Dave was converted into a central defender to partner Tommy Matthews and form one of the great Cornish pairings. Dave made his debut for Town at Bugle 26th.August 1987 as substitute the but was substituted after breaking his nose. He went on to complete 258 appearances for Falmouth and netting 60 goals before moving on to Porthleven with the departing manager Trevor Mewton in 1994. Winning 3 SWL Championships-2 SWL Cups and runnersup 3 times in the Senior Cup Dave also captained Cornwall Dave Gardner died at St.Julia's Hospice Hayle on September 23th. 2003 at the age of 36 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

TheDron Posted July 24, 2011 Report Share Posted July 24, 2011 Didnt know Dave but I know Chloe And Jade and I know they are happy to see all these people turning up to watch the games and remebering him. Also Dave was well thought of by what Sid and Nigel were saying in the changing room at Penzance last Thursday night. Great to be involved in this tournament and its for a good cause. Goalscorers on Thursday night for Helston were Samuel Harry and Dan Stidwell Went and watched Porthleven and Falmouth yesterday and the goal scorer for Porthleven was Chris Strike and Falmouths were Dan Green x 2 and Matt Drummond x2.
