    Perkins Matthews.

Thank you. Dad passed away peacefully early last Thursday morning at Penhellis House, Helston following a short illness. Thank you to all the hospital staff at Treliske and West Cornwall who were magnificent throughout his last seven weeks and to Penhellis whose care was extraordinary. His funeral will be at Porthleven Methodist Church on Thursday May 31st at 2pm. Dad loved his football and played for Porthleven, Helston and Mousehole during his time and will also be remembered for playing cricket and umpiring the senior cricket leagues in Cornwall.

Yes Mike, many of them played for the Falmouth United youth sides and also played at county youth level as well. I haven't been able to get to many games this year but the thing that has stood out is the fitness and hunger the lads have shown and add that to the obvious talent they have and it's a pretty potent mix. Back when Rappo, Denty and I were playing we came up against teams who were technically better than us but we always ran the legs off them and I'm a firm believer that fitness is a prerequisite of any player and they've certainly shown that they're prepared to put in the hard yards. Great win for Westy and the team behind the team including Graham Medlyn who has kept the club together through tough times.

Congratulations to Westy and the entire squad. Richly deserved after a magnificent season.

    SWPL - Wednesday 2 May 2018

That’s right Kev we tackled hard and never cried when we got a clattering! I guess we’d just adapt to the stricter rules these days? Mark, I got booked twice, once in a CSC final at Truro and once at Witham in the FA Vase. Probably deserved more but I tried to play things fairly and got the benefit of the doubt from a few referees. Great times!
  6. Hi Mike

How many games did Phil Shapcott play for Town please?

  7. A county Youth Team match was scheduled for this season but was rained off.

Sadly, a few years ago I managed to get a county game at Bickland as it's my home club and was badly let down. When I arrived the pitch was appauling, no work had been done during the week and little effort made to mark it out, the grass hadn't been cut. The changing rooms were filthy dirty as well, I couldn't believe what I was seeing. No committee members there to welcome anybody from the CCFA or Gloucestershire FA, they'd gone to Town's away match somewhere. Only Suzie Williams left to make food for the players after the match which had been agreed beforehand, and she had to go out and buy more as she wasn't told about it.

To be honest I was embarrassed about it and having agreed everything before the game the "welcome" from the club was anything but welcoming.

That might have something to do with it. The current committee are trying hard to redress the situation and are back in favour but you'll have to wait your turn I guess.

    Hope that helps.
