Pez8
Just wondering what the rules are for playing with a cast. I have a broken hand and wasnt sure if you are allowed to play??
pointers
I think you can play so long as it's a soft cast....? There is such type I believe...
Marazion2013
It is at the referees discretion I think you will find. I played in a cast from knuckles to elbow wrapped in sponge some years ago.
Villatim1981
When I dislocated my thumb few years back, I wasn't allowed to play. Only had a small cast round wrist and padded it up but ref said no. Think its his discretion but I doubt you would be allowed. Health and safety and all that.... bighairydave
As long as it is soft and doesn't pose any threat to yourself or your opponents the referee on the day can allow you to play. But it is totally down to their discretion.
Pez8
Ok cool. Thanks for the feedback I will see what happens. Got a plaster cast at the moment so it looks doubtful!

chesterfield
Referees discretion!so u could travel to play kit up then get told no surely there should be a definitive rule regarding type of cast it is
richtheref
Its down to the ref as long as the cast does not pose a risk of injury to others and your injury does not get aggrevated. Best bet is to cover it with a soft cover. Hope this helps
Referee
If you need a definitive rule then that would be easy to apply ; a definite NO. However, common sense prevails occasionally. I allowed a player with a soft cast, covered in sponge, to play recently. I informed both teams who were ok with it and I explained that if the cast was deliberately used to injure another player (when going for a header or in a tackle) then that would be considered as violent conduct and a straight red card would be issued. Both teams agreed and both teams behaved well.
Marazion2013
Absolutely Referee, common sense comes in to play. As for the reply from Chesterfield, common sense is that you do not get kitted up until you have asked the referee. And if you are a team member then surely you would have travelled to support the team anyway.

karaoke
Ha Ha, years ago I played in The South Western League with a broken arm and a full cast, the stupid thing was I played in goal! ( I did have a long sleeve top and gloves so the ref couldn't notice)
