  1. FT: Hebburn Town 2 (Scott 20, 45) Plymouth Parkway 0 PARKWAY DREAM OF GLORY IN FA VASE SHATTERED Parkway travelled just over 400 miles to the North East looking to overcome joint favourites, with themselves, Hebburn Town in the quarter final of the FA Vase, the furthest either club had ever gone in the competition. A record crowd of 1,705 for the hosts included around 60 from Parkway who had made the long journey by plane, train and road. Parkway made 4 changes from last Saturday’s victory at Cadbury Heath with Jordan Copp, Aaron Bentley,Jamie Lowry and Shane Krac starting in place of Ryan Lane Jack Calver, Jordan Bentley and Craig Duff. With a chilly, strong cross field wind blowing, both sides took a while to adjust to the conditions with little pattern to play emerging. An early free kick to Parkway from around 25 yards went harmlessly wide with a Hebburn break along the left on 6 minutes ending with Cedwyn Scott firing well over. Play remained rather scrappy with both sides conceding possession too easily and few chances being created. On 12 minutes a Parkway break along the right saw Krac fire in a dangerous cross which just eluded the incoming Teigan Rosenquest at the far post. Despite Parkway starting well, Hebburn gradually began to take control looking to play long balls into the wide channels and looking particularly threatening along the left with Olly Martin looking dangerous. Parkway were struggling to impose themselves or retain any decent possession in midfield as the hosts continued to press hard denying the visitors time and space. Neither side were able to create any clear cut chances as the strong wind made ball retention and passing difficult with play continuing to be fairly fragmented. The hosts main outlet continued to be the long ball into the left channel which Parkway were finding it difficult to deal with and it came as no real surprise when they took the lead through that route on 20 minutes. Martin latched on to a pass from deep, got to the bye line and crossed into the 6 yard box where Scott got ahead of his marker to finish from close range. The hosts continued to look threatening with Parkway unable to get their wide players forward and into the game to support the lone striker Adam Carter with the home defence remaining in control dealing comfortably with the occasional attack and winning most of the aerial duels. On 34 minutes another Hebburn attack, this time along the right, saw another dangerous cross fired in behind the Parkway defence with no one able to get the final touch. Hebburn continued to look the stronger and more organised outfit as Parkway, despite working hard to stay in the game, continued to frequently concede possession and rarely test Mark Foden in the home goal. A rare Parkway attack on 41 minutes saw their first real chance of the game with Lowry surging forward unchallenged from midfield and seeing his powerful shot from 20 yards take a slight deflection only to be superbly saved one handed by Foden at full stretch and cleared behind for a corner. A neat lay off by Carter to Krac on 43 minutes saw his shot go harmlessly wide with Parkway then being caught by a sucker punch on the stroke of half time. Another long ball from deep to the left saw Martin link well with Michael McKeown with the latter crossing into the danger area with Scott again slotting home from close range after rounding the exposed Kyle Moore. A vital second goal at a crucial moment coming shortly after Parkway’s best and arguably only chance of the first half. A generally scrappy half with the strong wind playing it’s part with the hosts looking the more composed side and looking dangerous and pacey up front and clinically taking the few chances that came their way. Hebburn almost increased their lead on 47 minutes with Parkway failing to deal with another long bouncing ball and Scott poking just wide from 5 yards when he really should have done better. The hosts continued to look sharper and quicker all over the park with Moore having to race from his goal to clear a break along the right on 54 minutes. Martin broke clear on the left shortly after, pulling his shot just wide. Duff replaced Billy Palfrey on 58 minutes as Parkway looked to get back into the game however the home defence remained resolute and rarely under threat. A Krac shot on 64 minutes after being set up by Carter was easily saved with the hosts going straight to the other end and Martin again breaking clear but seeing a poor effort well saved by Moore. With Parkway now chasing the game, a Krac free kick through the wall was comfortably saved by Foden as Hebburn continued to play long balls in behind the Parkway back line as spaces opened up. On 70 minutes Rob Farkins received the game’s first yellow card after a bit of wrestling in the 18 yard area whilst awaiting a corner. From the resultant corner some desperate defending saw Bentley clear off the line twice in quick succession from Michael Richardson as the hosts continued to apply pressure. With Parkway continuing to push forward in search of a goal which really didn’t look like coming, spaces opened up in midfield and at the back with the hosts looking ever more dangerous. On 81 minutes a superb save by Moore in a one on one situation was followed by yet another crucial save on 84 minutes. The impressive Scott was replaced by Ben Dibb-Fuller on 85 minutes with Moore again coming to the rescue on 88 minutes with another fine save only to repeat his heroics again in stoppage time as the hosts finished the game strongly to run out worthy winners. A disappointing, disjointed performance from Parkway who were nowhere near their best and seemed at times to let the occasion get to them and were generally second best to a strong, well organised Hebburn side who fully deserved their win. Had it not been for some outstanding goalkeeping from Moore in the last 15 minutes, the margin of defeat could have been even greater. Despite the defeat, to reach the last 8 of a national competition is a tremendous achievement by all concerned at Parkway and should not be underestimated or forgotten particularly as 5 of the 6 rounds were away from home and involved many hours of travelling and many miles on the road. Thoughts must now quickly return to the league and the aim of promotion by getting a positive, instant reaction to today’s disappointment by regrouping and refocussing on the challenges ahead. It doesn’t get any easier with, weather permitting, a visit to 2nd placed Bradford Town on Wednesday with 3rd placed Hallen the visitors to Bolitho Park on Saturday. Despite the disappointment of the result, the warm welcome, helpfulness and friendliness of the locals both at the club and in the surrounding area was excellent with the majority of the Parkway faithful extremely complimentary about how, apart from the result, they had enjoyed their weekend away and how they had been hosted. Non league football family at it’s best. Good luck to Hebburn in the semi-final and maybe beyond. Courtesy of Graham Llyod
  2. FT: Clevedon Town 0 Plymouth Parkway 2 (Jordan Bentley 69, Calver 75) Parkway travelled to 10th placed Clevedon Town having received news that the pitch had passed a midday inspection. Around 30 of the Parkway faithful boosted the attendance of 130. 2 changes were made from the FA Vase victory over West Auckland with Craig Duff starting in place of top scorer Adam Carter up front and Jordan Bentley coming in at right back replacing brother Aaron Bentley who was unavailable due to illness. The game got off to a cagey start with as both sides adjusting to the stodgy but playable surface. A young Clevedon side created the first chance on 7 minutes in a break along the left with Rob Farkins bravely blocking an effort from Jack Sell. With the pacey Jay Murray and Morgan Williams looking dangerous for the hosts, Parkway struggled to get their game going with little cohesion in their play and being forced on to the defensive where they held firm. Clevedon were forced into an early substitution on 18 minutes with captain Callum Kingdon receiving a head injury and being replaced by Zach Drew. Archie Ferris took over the captain’s armband. Chances were at a premium with play scrappy and lacking any real quality with defences remaining in control and neither keeper being tested. Drew received the game’s first yellow card on 25 minutes as play became congested in midfield with both sides conceding possession too easily and little pattern to play. On 26 minutes Parkway forced a corner with a Farkins header being comfortably saved by Mike Dangerfield. With Parkway now beginning to assert some authority, a strong run forward by Ryan Lane on 27 minutes forced another corner which was comfortably dealt with before they almost took the lead on 29 minutes with the first clear cut chance of the game. A surging run and cross from the right by Bentley found the unmarked Billy Palfrey 10 yards out whose well directed header was superbly pushed away by Dangerfield at full stretch. The game continued to lack any real quality with neither side able to get any rhythm into their play or gain the upper hand. On 36 minutes a Parkway break along the right released Jordan Copp whose angled shot was parried away. With Farkins and Nick Milton looking strong in the centre of defence, the hosts were unable to provide any penetration despite having their fair share of midfield possession. A generally scrappy, uneventful, uninspiring first half with few chances for either side who, despite working hard, were unable to breach two solid defensive units. Clevedon started the second half the sharper looking to use the flanks as their main attacking option. Callum Gould received a yellow card early in the half before Sell broke away on 48 minutes but more solid Parkway defending denied him a shot on goal. Parkway had a narrow escape on 49 minutes when a whipped in free kick from the right fizzed across the face of the goal evading everyone and going behind for a goal kick. Clevedon continued to look the more threatening forcing Parkway to defend in numbers but were still unable to create any clear cut chances. Shane Krac received a yellow card on 51 minutes for a robust challenge in midfield as play went through a feisty period with numerous stoppages for petty infringements. Clevedon continued to press with Kyle Moore making a comfortable save from a long range shot on 58 minutes. A raft of substitutions on the hour saw Lucas Vowles replace Williams for the hosts and Parkway make a double substitution with Carter and Teigan Rosenquest replacing Duff and Copp respectively. Having weathered the early Clevedon pressure, Parkway gradually regained some control in midfield and on 64 minutes a good passage of play along the right between Rosenquest and Mikey Williams saw the ball laid back to Krac who fired wide. The hosts almost took the lead on 66 minutes when an uncharacteristic slip by Lane saw him robbed of the ball on the left allowing the Clevdeon player a run on goal but the alert Moore came quickly off his line to narrow the angle and make a superb block save. A game changing moment? Frustration started to creep into the hosts play and Sell received yellow card on 67 minutes. The Moore save seemed to deflate the hosts and give renewed energy to Parkway who suddenly looked the far stronger side, moving the ball more fluently and linking play well as they took the lead on 69 minutes. A free kick 30 yards out on the left picked out Farkins at the far post whose header back into the danger area was recycled by Jamie Lowry into a congested 6 yard box where, after a goalmouth scramble, Bentley pounced on the loose ball and rammed home from close range. With the rain beginning to sweep in, Parkway continued to dictate play despite Lowry receiving a yellow card on 72 minutes as the hosts looked to find a way back into the game. Parkway made their final substitution on 75 minutes with Jack Calver replacing Krac. With a free kick already having been awarded to Parkway 25 yards out centrally and the ball in place, on came Calver and with his very first touch stepped up to fire a superlative free kick into the top left hand corner giving Dangerfield no chance. A goal that would have graced any game at any level and would have no doubt impressed a certain Mr Beckham who had been in the same ground a week earlier watching his son play! The goal lifted Parkway and they continued to be the stronger side with the hosts coming under increasing pressure with Ethan Feltham replacing Murray on 78 minutes. On 83 minutes Parkway had a goal disallowed for a marginal offside after a sharp break creating a 2 on 1 with Rosenquest setting up Palfrey who slotted home only to be denied by the referee’s assistants flag. Williams then fired over after another flowing move on 86 minutes as Parkway looked to retain possession and see the game out which they managed comfortably. Not a classic game against a young Clevedon outfit who competed well throughout but lacked a cutting edge against a resolute defensive display from Parkway who had to work hard and show guts and determination to eventually grind out the victory on a pitch that held up surprisingly well. They remain in second place 3 points behind Bradford Town with a game in hand and a superior goal difference of +5. Moore’s save at a crucial stage and the astute substitutions were key factors which changed the course of the game giving Parkway the impetus for a strong last 20 minutes which ultimately proved to be the difference between the two sides. They now continue their demanding fixture schedule with another away game on Saturday, weather permitting, when they visit Cadbury Heath. That will be followed by a pivotal week that may or may not define their season with home and away midweek games with Bradford Town with the small matter of an FA Vase quarter final tie at Hebburn Town sandwiched in between! Hold tight. Many thanks to Graham Lloyd for a superb report
  3. Hi Jacob This I'm sure will be a very tough tie, and I know the Manager and Coaching staff will do everything in their power to ensure the Team is prepared in every way possible. They did extensive homework on West Auckland and that paid off...nothing to say we cant go all the way. RVP

  5. FT: Plymouth Parkway 2 (Farkins 45, Palfrey 63) West Auckland Town 1 (Purewal 31) PARKWAY PROGRESS TO THE LAST 8 OF THE FA VASE In front of a bumper crowd of 671 Parkway were looking to reach the last 8 of the FA Vase against Northern League side West Auckland Town. 4 changes were made from last week’s narrow victory against Wellington with Jamie Lowry, Nick Milton, Shane Krac and Jordan Copp starting in place of Jack Calver, Jordan Bentley, Craig Duff and Teigan Rosenquest. Parkway almost had the perfect start when straight from the kick off a Copp cross into the 6 yard area was deflected and grasped by the visitor’s keeper Thomas Flynn on the line. Parkway were making the early running and from a free kick on 3 minutes an Adam Carter header was comfortably gathered by Flynn. With both sides feeling their way into the game and playing at a high tempo, Krac picked up a yellow card on 8 minutes. Parkway gradually began to apply some pressure and from a corner on 9 minutes Rob Farkins glanced a header narrowly wide. With the visitors Adam Mitchell impressive and creative in midfield and Amar Purewal looking dangerous in attack, Parkway had a narrow escape on 12 minutes when a cross from the right flashed across the 6 yard box and away to safety. With Parkway continuing to apply pressure, on 18 minutes good play from Billy Palfrey released Carter who was denied getting his shot away by some last ditch defending. Play continued to switch from end to end however both defences generally remained on top with clear cut chances few and far between. On 21 minutes a long diagonal crossfield ball from Krac found Mikey Williams on the right who cut inside only to see his shot smothered on the line by Flynn. West Auckland then had a period in the ascendancy gaining some midfield control and on 23 minutes a poor Parkway clearance resulted in a sharp break from Lewis Dodds who shot over when well placed. The visitors continued to threaten and on 29 minutes the lively Liam Hegarty was put clear along the right only to shoot wide from a tight angle. Their pressure eventually paid off on 31 minutes when a slick passing move in midfield saw an Alex Francis through ball put Purewal in the clear who finished clinically with a low shot into the bottom corner to give the visitors the lead. Parkway responded well looking dangerous at set pieces winning the aerial battles in the danger areas with Farkins heading just wide from a corner and then being denied from another by a good save from Flynn. With West Auckland looking to contain and play on the break, the Parkway back line remained firm with Milton in commanding form and Kyle Moore in the home goal relatively untested. Parkway continued to push forward and on the cusp of half time grabbed the equaliser their play deserved. Yet another free kick from the left, this time taken by Ryan Lane, caused confusion and hesitation in the 6 yard box with the alert Farkins reacting quickest and pounce to stab the ball home from close range for his long awaited first goal of the season. A tight, competitive, fairly even half with little to choose between the sides with Parkway creating the more chances with West Auckland taking the one clear chance that came their way. Parkway started the second half the sharper applying early pressure with Wiiliams having a shot deflected behind for a corner on 50 minutes after a good passage of play along the right. From the corner a close range Milton header was acrobatically tipped over by Flynn as Parkway camped in the final third with a series of flowing moves and telling crosses. A Farkins header just wide and a Krac shot being parried by Flynn increased the pressure on the visitors defence and on 53 minutes another cross into the 18 yard box caused a scramble with a penalty being awarded for handball. The normally reliable Carter stepped up only to blaze the spot kick over the bar. This seemed to deflate Parkway briefly and lift the visitors who then enjoyed a period of pressure forcing a couple of corners which were comfortably defended. Parkway regrouped and increased the tempo of their game showing good energy and intensity. Copp received a yellow card for a foul on 57 minutes with the visitors replacing James Harwood with David Dowson on the hour. With Parkway now forcing the pace they took the lead on 63 minutes. Good work on the right between Krac and Aaron Bentley saw the ball played into Carter who deftly laid the ball off to the supporting Palfrey who calmly slotted home from around 6 yards. With West Auckland being pushed further on the defensive, a Williams shot on 65 minutes was well saved by Flynn as Parkway continued to dominate. On 74 minutes a smart passage of play along the left saw a teasing cross from Lane partially cleared with the ball dropping to Bentley around 18 yards out who turned sharply and shot just wide. Duff replaced the hard working Krac on 76 minutes with West Auckland now pushing forward in search of an equaliser. Good work between Francis and Anthony Bell on 77 minutes set up substitute Dowson who shot wildly over as Moore remained generally untested. Parkway created further chances with Williams curling an effort just wide on 79 minutes and his persistence in winning the ball out wide on 81 minutes then saw him set up Copp whose powerful shot was pushed over by Flynn. Rees Greenwood replaced Hegarty on 82 minutes with Rosenquest replacing Copp shortly afterwards as Parkway looked to retain possession and manage the game out. West Auckland continued to have their fair share of possession but failed to hurt the Parkway defence which remained resolute. The game’s final chance fell to Parkway on 86 minutes when a good ball through a tiring defence saw an astute lob by Carter blocked by Flynn on the edge of the 18 yard area. Jordan Bentley replaced the tireless Carter as the game entered 5 minutes of stoppage time with Parkway seeing the game out to earn a famous victory. A pulsating game between two evenly matched sides with Parkway creating the clearer chances and defending solidly with the visitors lacking the cutting edge up front to match their fair share of midfield possession. Monday’s quarter final draw is now eagerly awaited by all connected at Parkway who have now been installed as the bookies favourites for the competition. To round off a good day for Parkway, two potential contenders in the league title race Tavistock and Exmouth both lost thereby losing ground on the top two. Parkway’s attention now turns back to the league with 5 scheduled fixtures before the quarter final of the FA vase on 29 February. They start with a visit to Buckland Athletic on Tuesday with Bridgwater Town, one of only 2 teams to defeat them this season, the visitors to Bolitho Park next Saturday. 7. FT: Plymouth Parkway 1 (Carter 84) Wellington 0 PARKWAY’S PATIENT PERSERVERANCE PAYS OFF A crowd of 208 were in attendance as Parkway took on lowly Wellington looking to maintain their recent run of good results and their push for promotion. Today’s game was the first of 9 in February meaning there will be Saturday and midweek games for the remainder of the month. Two changes were made from last week’s victory at Chipping Sodbury with Jack Calver replacing the unavailable Shane Krac with Teigan Rosenquest starting in place of Jordan Copp. The game got off to a stuttering start with neither side able to establish any control or momentum with far too many misplaced passes and a lack of quality in the final third. It soon became evident that the visitor’s game plan would be to look to contain, put players behind the ball, defend deep and look to counter when possible and replicate what they had done in the home encounter earlier in the season when they proved very difficult to break down. Parkway had plenty of possession but were unable to penetrate the visitors dogged defending or create any meaningful chances. The closest they came was on 15 minutes when Calver fizzed a low free kick into the danger area just evading everyone and going behind for a goal kick. With Wellington rarely getting forward, their main source of attack was a series of long throws into the 6 yard box which were comfortably dealt with by the Parkway defence. Parkway continued to dominate possession but too often their build up play was ponderous and lacking intensity enabling the visitors to defend without too many alarms with their keeper Tom Welch rarely tested. A series of set pieces also lacked quality with free kicks invariably being driven into the defensive wall or corners failing to beat the first defender. Approaching half time the visitor’s Jack Porter was yellow carded for crudely bundling into Rosenquest. The final action of the half saw a Ryan Lane shot being deflected behind by Adam Carter which just about summed up an uneventful, uninspiring, lacklustre 45 minutes with neither side showing any real quality or creating any clear chances. Words must have been said in the home dressing room at half time as Parkway made a much more positive start and should have taken the lead on 46 minutes. Clever play on the right by Mikey Williams saw him link well with Craig Duff who played the ball into Carter who dragged his shot wide from 6 yards when it seemed easier to score. Parkway gradually increased the pressure and looked a completely different outfit from the first half playing at a much higher tempo and with more conviction. With the visitors content to spoil and slow play down whenever possible, they remained difficult to break down as frustration began to creep into the Parkway play. Ian Bellinger replaced Charlie Dodds on 53 minutes and his first involvement was to receive a yellow card after a late challenge on Parkway keeper Kyle Moore. With Parkway now pushing forward and looking more dangerous, a reckless challenge by Wellington’s Jake Horsey on Carter on 59 minutes saw him receive a yellow card which on another day may have been deemed a red. From the resultant well directed free kick from Calver, Rob Farkins headed back across the goal to Billy Palfrey whose point blank header was acrobatically tipped over by an increasingly busy Welch. On 66 minutes another Calver free kick from 30 yards went narrowly wide with the Wellington defence coming under increasing pressure as they continued to ride their luck. With Wellington offering little threat up front, Parkway changed formation to 3 5 2 with Copp replacing Calver on 67 minutes. They almost took the lead on 68 minutes when a typically mazy run into the 18 yard area from Williams ended with his attempt to curl his shot around Welch saw the keeper spread himself to make a brave save. Wellington continued to frustrate Parkway conceding a series of free kicks in their own half which constantly broke up play which became scrappy and fragmented. On 73 minutes Lane had a close range shot blocked and from the corner Duff’s header was pushed over by Welch with Rosenquest then having a shot blocked as the visitor’s goal continued to bear a charmed life. On 75 minutes another close range Parkway effort was deflected on to the top of the crossbar as Wellington continued to defend desperately but successfully. On 81 minutes James Clough received a yellow card as Parkway continued to press and threaten. Just when it looked like it would be one of those days, to the audible relief and delight of the Parkway supporters, players and management, they finally breached the Wellington defence on 84 minutes. From another defensive clearance Parkway picked up the loose ball which was threaded through to Carter who, under some pressure from a defender, showed good strength and determination to just beat the outstanding Welch to the ball and stab home from around 8 yards. With Wellington now forced to throw players forward in search of an equaliser they picked up their fifth yellow card after a foul by Josh Pearson. Parkway now looked to see the game through but were given a scare on 89 minutes when another long throw was headed on straight into the grateful arms of Moore for his first save of the half. There was still time for Copp to receive a yellow card for not retreating at a free kick as Wellington threw everything forward. After a considerable amount of stoppage time, Parkway eventually saw the game out to complete a gritty, hardworking performance against dogged, determined opponents who, as predicted, proved very hard to break down with their resolute defensive display. However had it not been for man of the match Welch and some wayward Parkway finishing, the margin of victory could have been much greater. Parkway remain in second place 3 points behind and with a game in hand over Bradford Town who were 4-0 winners today thereby narrowing the goal difference in Parkway’s favour to 4. Weather and pitch condition permitting, Parkway will now entertain Plymouth Argyle in the Devon Challenge Bowl quarter final on Tuesday followed on Saturday by the visit of West Auckland Town in the 5th round (last 16) of the FA Vase. 10. FT: Plymouth Parkway 4 (M. Williams 10, Duff 15, Calver 21, Rowlands 60) Ilfracombe Town 2 (Roberts pen 69, Mason 89) PARKWAY PROGRESS IN DEVON BOWL In front of a below average crowd of 121, Parkway entertained SW Peninsula League East Division leaders Ilfracombe Town in the 2nd round of the Devon St Lukes Challenge Bowl. Parkway made 3 changes from Saturday’s FA Vase victory at Woodbridge Town with Jordan Bentley, Jack Calver and Fletcher Williams coming in for Rob Farkins, Billy Palfrey and Adam Carter. Amongst the substitutes was the surprise inclusion of dual registered and former Parkway favourite Levi Landricombe looking to build his fitness levels and get game time after his operations and long injury lay off. The game got off to a lively, open start with the visitors Alfie Moulden testing the Parkway Supporters Club player of the month for December goalkeeper Kyle Moore after 4 minutes. Parkway were quickly into their stride however moving the ball at pace and took the lead on 10 minutes. Good link up play along the right between Craig Duff and Mikey Williams saw the latter cut inside and fire a low angled drive across Jamie Matthew in the visitor’s goal into the far bottom corner. With the impressive, pacey Moulden looking dangerous running from midfield, his shot from distance on 12 minutes was fumbled by Moore who managed to smother the ball at the second attempt. With Parkway now beginning to dominate with fast flowing passing and movement in transition, they doubled their lead on 15 minutes. A neat exchange between Duff and Shane Krac saw the latter pick out the intelligent movement of Duff who moved forward and coolly placed a cleverly lofted drive over Matthew from around 15 yards. With Parkway completely in control in midfield, playing at a high tempo and with intensity, Ilfracombe were in danger of being overrun with Moulden picking up the game’s first yellow card on 18 minutes for a foul. Parkway’s continued pressure saw them create further chances and they went further ahead on 21 minutes. With the increasingly influential Krac dictating the play, his penetrating ball found Ryan Lane clear on the left who drove forward at pace and laid the ball back to Calver who finished with aplomb firing a powerful rising left footed drive into the top corner from around 20 yards giving Matthew no chance. Ilfracombe were struggling to deal with the pace and movement of Parkway, conceding space in midfield allowing Parkway to push forward at will. The visitor’s sporadic counter attacks were being dealt with comfortably by the Parkway defence which allowed their full backs to get forward to support the midfield. Parkway were forced to shuffle their defence on 27 minutes with central defender Nick Milton appearing to pick up an injury and being taken off as a precaution. Aaron Bentley moved to the centre of defence with Palfrey coming on to slot in at right back. With their 3 goal cushion, the Parkway energy levels and tempo dropped slightly allowing Ilfracombe more of the ball and create the occasional half chance with a shot being curled just wide on the half hour. The hard working Duff then won a midfield challenge and put Jordan Copp in the clear forcing Matthew into a fine save. The visitors Chris Roberts then had a powerful shot well saved on 34 minutes as Ilfracombe began to get into the game more putting the home defence under some pressure. Another swift Parkway move along the left on 38 minutes saw Mikey Williams exchange a series of passes with Lane whose low drive across Matthew smacked against the base of the far post and rebounded to safety. With Parkway continuing to threaten, another fast break down the right on 43 minutes saw the ball played into the impressive Duff who saw his shot pushed behind for a corner by Matthew. The final chance of the half fell to the visitors with an effort going just wide. A strong opening half hour from Parkway in which they played some excellent football, dominated midfield with their approach play backed up by clinical, quality finishing highlighting the difference between steps 5 and 6 at which the two sides play. The visitors gradually got back into the game as the pace slowed and may well have reduced the deficit had they capitalised on the occasional forced error in the Parkway back line. Parkway made a double substitution at half time with Landricombe and Francis Rowlands replacing Krac and Mikey Williams with Calver being handed the captain’s armband. Ilfracombe started the half with greater intent creating an early chance forcing Moore into a decent save. However Parkway almost increased their lead on 50 minutes when an incisive passage of play down the left saw Fletcher Williams, who had been quietly efficient in midfield, narrowly fail to connect with a deep cross to the far post. Play became more even as Ilfracombe began to force the pace with Moulden at the heart of most of their attacking moves. An Ilfracombe free kick on their left was fired wildly over on 54 minutes as Parkway were forced on to the defensive and not being allowed to reproduce their first half dominance. Matthew was in the action again on 58 minutes parrying a Calver free kick from 25 yards then blocking the follow up close range effort by Landricombe from the rebound. Arguably against the run of play Parkway went further ahead on the hour. Persistence and clever play by Copp tight to the right hand touch line saw him leave 2 defenders in his wake and deliver a quality cross to the unmarked Rowlands who volleyed home spectacularly from around 15 yards for his first goal for the club. With the game seemingly won, the Parkway intensity dropped further allowing Ilfracombe more possession from which they created a couple of half chances with Palfrey picking up a yellow card for a foul around the halfway line. Their persistence finally paid off on 69 minutes as they deservedly pulled a goal back. Once again the dangerous Moulden caused problems with a jinking, penetrating run along the right against some hesitant Parkway defending and was bundled over in the penalty area close to the bye line. Roberts confidently despatched the resultant spot kick. Sam Phillips was immediately replaced by Sam Box for the visitors. Ilfracombe continued to threaten and began to look the better side forcing Parkway to defend strongly with Roberts seeing his shot fly narrowly over. Dave Mason replaced Cory Roach on 75 minutes for the visitors as the game became more stretched with a Sam Stephens powerful strike forcing another good save by Moore on 85 minutes. With Parkway now being restricted to playing on the counter, a break along the left ended with Palfrey heading the deep cross just over on 87 minutes. As the game approached stoppage time with Ilfracombe on the offensive causing Parkway a few anxious moments, they reduced the arrears further on 89 minutes. Sloppy defending on the right allowed a shot on target which Moore could only parry away with the ball dropping kindly to the unmarked Mason who drilled home calmly into the bottom corner from around 6 yards. A patchy performance by Parkway with an outstanding first 30 minutes or so followed by periods lacking intensity and control. Credit should be given to a well organised, competitive Ilfracombe who recovered well from the early onslaught, never gave up and came back well in the second half showing why they are top of their league having only suffered one defeat so far this season. The victory sets up an intriguing quarter final tie when Plymouth Argyle will be the visitors to Bolitho Park on Wednesday 29 January with a 7.45 kick off. Parkway have no game this Saturday but will travel to Bradford Town next Wednesday for what should be an enthralling top of the table clash with first playing second in what could be a pivotal game in the destination of the title and both sides promotion ambitions. Hold tight!!
  11. FT: Woodbridge Town 0 Plymouth Parkway 1 (M. Williams 75) PARKWAY CREATE CLUB HISTORY IN THE FA VASE Parkway made the long trip to Suffolk looking to create club history by reaching the 5th round (last 16) of the FA Vase for the first time when they took on Eastern Counties League Premier Division side Woodbridge Town. Amongst the crowd of 276 were around 35-40 of the Parkway faithful which included some family members of your correspondent, the boisterous gang of 5 from the Beccles branch of the supporters club and also friends and family of Parkway player Jack Calver. Parkway made 3 changes from their midweek victory at Keynsham Town with captain Shane Krac,Nick Milton and Jordan Copp returning in place of Teigan Rosenquest, Jordan Bentley and Ryan Guppy. Woodbridge included player/manager and captain, former professional Carlos Edwards in their starting line up. With Parkway playing with a strong wind at their backs, the game got off to a scrappy start with both sides feeling each other out with Woodbridge having slightly more of the possession and having a half hearted shout for a penalty waved away on 6 minutes. With the hosts tricky Callum Sinclair looking lively along the right flank, Woodbridge saw an early shot go harmlessly over with Parkway gradually having more of the ball but struggling to make an impact or create much forward momentum. With both sides unable to retain possession for any length of time and guilty of lack of quality in their passing, the game became disjointed with a series of petty fouls and free kicks breaking up play. With play being confined to a congested midfield area, few chances were being created with defences remaining in control and both goalkeepers rarely called into action. Parkway continued their patient build up play with Woodbridge battling well and having their fair share of possession but lacking a cutting edge up front. The game continued to lack quality as both sides cancelled each other out. Parkway gradually started to gain some dominance and had their first effort on target on 29 minutes with Adam Carter’s mishit shot from distance comfortably saved by Alfie Stronge. On 32 minutes another long ball was headed on by Craig Duff to Carter whose angled shot skimmed the bar. With both sides continuing to concede possession too easily, the game lacked any great quality with few chances being created. Woodbridge forced their first corner on 42 minutes with Ben Garnham firing high and wide from 18 yards after the ball dropped to him from the Parkway clearance. Generally the quality of delivery from set pieces had been poor from both sides but from a Parkway corner on the left on 43 minutes, Craig Duff arrived late at the far post to power a header just over the bar which turned out to be their best chance of the half. A cagey, uninspiring half of few chances with neither side able to exert any control or dominate as both looked to contain, defend strongly and with Parkway set up not to concede. With Parkway now playing into the swirling wind, Jordan Copp shot just over on 47 minutes as play followed a similar pattern to the first half. Edwards was at the heart of most of the hosts attacking play and shot just wide on 53 minutes after a strong break along the right. Woodbridge forced a couple of corners which were well defended by Parkway with the home side’s central defender Liam Scopes picking up the game’s first yellow card for a foul just outside the visitors 18 area. With Parkway beginning to dictate the pace of the game they created their best move of the game on the hour. A smart move along the left between Ryan Lane, Duff and Mikey Williams ended with latter’s shot being deflected for a corner. Parkway continued to press and another cross from the left saw Krac glance a header from around 8 yards just wide. Woodbridge now looking to play on the counter broke forward occasionally with the Parkway defence holding firm with Kyle Moore in the Parkway goal remaining largely untested. James Hubbard replaced striker Jake Rudge on 72 minutes. As with many tight, tense knockout games a mistake or a slice of luck can prove decisive. This was the case on 75 minutes as Parkway took the lead. A good ball to Carter free on the right saw his cross into the danger area dropping to a Woodbridge defender whose scuffed attempt to clear fell to the supporting, unmarked Williams on the edge of the 18 yard area. Showing good control and composure, Williams moved forward unchallenged with his calm, clinical finish beating the despairing dive of Stronge low to his right. The hard working Carter who had ploughed a lone furrow up front was then replaced by the fresh legs of the pacey Rosenquest with the hosts bringing on Nathan Read for Ryan Keeble. Rosenquest was quickly into the action setting up Duff whose shot was well saved by Stronge. As the game entered its final stages, Woodbridge pushed more players forward as they searched for an equaliser with George Bowman replacing full back Dale Hammond. With Parkway looking to hold on to their lead they dropped deeper putting more players behind the ball with defender Jordan Bentley replacing Copp on 89 minutes. One last surge by Woodbridge in stoppage time saw them win a free kick 25 yards out wide on the right which fizzed just over the bar. Parkway then held on for a hard fought, battling victory in a rather turgid game of few chances which generally lacked quality from either side and was decided by a single goal after a defensive error. After leaving Plymouth at 1030 on Friday with an overnight stay in Ipswich, clearly the right decision by the club’s board, it was a weary but jubilant group of players and supporters who arrived back at 0130 on Sunday morning. They can all now look forward to Monday’s draw at 1pm to see if they will be at home in the last 16 or go back on the road for the 5th successive time. The season continues on Wednesday with Parkway facing another tough challenge when they entertain SW Peninsula Premier East League (step 6) leaders Ilfracombe Town in the quarter final of the Devon St Lukes Bowl with the winners hosting Plymouth Argyle. Many thanks to Graham for yet another excellent report and also to the fantastic support from the travelling contingent. Great to meet members of players and supporters families based in Suffolk and thanks for bolstering our numbers..hope you all enjoyed it !
  12. FT: Keynsham Town 0 Plymouth Parkway 3 (Carter 15 pen, 43, M. Williams 49) PARKWAY GO TOP AFTER EMPHATIC WIN Travelling for the first time on their recently acquired customised club coach, Parkway made the rearranged midweek trip to Keynsham Town knowing a victory would see them return to the top of the league on goal difference. With Ryan Lane,Craig Duff and Nick Milton returning from suspension, Parkway had virtually a full squad available and made 3 changes from Saturday’s victory over Brislington. Lane, Duff and Ryan Guppy made the starting line up replacing captain Shane Krac, Jordan Copp and Jamie Lowry. Krac, Copp and Milton were amongst those on a full bench with Jack Calver still carrying a minor niggle not risked. Rob Farkins took over the captains arm band. With light rain falling, the game got off to a lively start with the hosts looking to play a more direct style on the 3G surface and had the first chance of the game on 12 minutes with a free kick from 25 yards just clearing the bar. With Parkway adapting well to the surface and starting to move the ball at pace, their first chance came on 14 minutes with Teigan Rosenquest making a good run with his shot being well saved by Ash Clark with Carter pouncing on the rebound and the keeper blocking the follow up effort. Parkway took the lead in their next attack. A fine ball from Farkins to Rosenquest wide on the left saw him cut into the penalty area only to be brought down by keeper Clark who received a yellow card. Carter stepped up to take his second penalty in successive matches and despite Clark getting a hand to the ball he was unable to complete the save. The game developed into an open affair with contrasting styles as Parkway looked to play a fast moving passing game through midfield and the hosts looking to play more direct with a series of long diagonal balls to Craig Wilson and Jamie Noble on the flanks. On 18 minutes Wilson made a strong run along the left with his dangerous cross being well defended. With Lane and Rosenquest showing good energy and playing at a high tempo, they combined well on 20 minutes to create a chance for Mikey Williams who’s well placed shot was well saved by Clark. Wilson then made a strong break along the left with his shot from 20 yards being pushed behind by Kyle Moore. A period of Keynsham pressure then saw Noble hit the side netting after a pacey run down the right. Parkway continued to move the ball at pace with Lane and Rosenquest prominent as they looked to increase their lead. Keynsham continued to play on the counter and after Parkway had needlessly conceded possession 30 yards from goal another shot from distance went just wide. Clark was forced into action again on 29 minutes making a good save low down at his near post from a Lane shot. With the Parkway defensive unit looking solid and well organised and their midfield pressing high, Keynsham were being restricted to long range efforts with Matt Long firing just wide on the half hour. Williams and Carter then combined well on 32 minutes with Carter’s close range strike being blocked before play switched to the other end forcing Moore into a terrific save from a Matt Brown shot from distance. Parkway continued to threaten with the busy Billy Palfrey seeing his free kick easily saved by Clark on 40 minutes. With Parkway continuing to apply pressure they increased their lead on 43 minutes with a superb passage of play. Another precision cross field ball from Farkins found Williams wide on the left who showed excellent control, balance and pace to evade 3 or 4 challenges and slide a perfect ball into the alert Carter who got ahead of his marker to cleverly slot home at the near post. A good end to the half for Parkway with the second goal just reward for their slick, at times outstanding, approach play which had the hosts on the back foot for much of the period. Parkway started the second half sharply and increased their lead further on 49 minutes. Duff’s persistence wide on the right saw him win the ball from a hesitant defender and play the ball to the edge of the 18 yard area where Williams showing good awareness and quick feet, smartly shifted the ball to his right foot curling a low shot into the bottom corner giving Clark no chance. The game took a decisive twist on 51 minutes. The irrepressible Rosenquest was brought down in midfield around the halfway line and from the ensuing melee the hosts Adey Harvey was shown a straight red card for raising an arm to Rosenquest with Duff and George Rooke receiving yellow cards for their involvement. Once order had been restored, Parkway continued to dominate possession playing at a high tempo and with good energy with the hosts rarely looking threatening and being forced to defend deeper. Krac replaced the ever efficient Palfrey around the hour mark as the tempo began to drop with Parkway looking to conserve energy and retain possession. Another good Parkway move along the left on 68 minutes saw Guppy fire just over with Cam Ricketts replacing Jamie Noble shortly after for the hosts. Rosenquest almost got the goal his performance deserved on 72 minutes with his shot being blocked close in after good approach play between himself and Williams. Parkway made their final substitutions on 75 minutes with the impressive duo of Lane and Mikey Williams being replaced by Copp and Fletcher Williams. Carter almost completed his hattrick when a stray back pass found him on his own in the 18 yard area with Clark denying him the opportunity as he tried to round the keeper. With Parkway looking comfortable in possession and composed in defence, the game took another dramatic turn on 77 minutes with the hosts being reduced to 8 men for almost the remainder of the game. A strong run down the right by Aaron Bentley saw him clearly tripped from behind by Rooke who promptly received his second yellow card with the Keynsham captain Mike Grist being sent to the sin bin for remarks made to the officials. Keynsham now put everyone behind the ball as Parkway slowed the game right down, kept possession and continued to conserve energy and see the game out which they did with comfortably. The victory sees them go back to the top of the table with an improved goal difference from Bradford Town aided by their first clean sheet in seven games. Arguably their best performance for some time with an accomplished, competent, disciplined display on an all weather surface which clearly suited their style of play. Goals at crucial times just before and after the break effectively sealed the game. Parkway can now approach their 4th round FA Vase tie at Woodbridge Town on Saturday in good spirits with an injury and suspension free squad. Despite one or two minor teething issues with the coach, it was a delighted group of players, officials and supporters who arrived back at Bolitho Park at around 2 a.m. and who are now no doubt looking forward to 1030 on Friday morning when they set off on the long journey to Suffolk. Many thanks Graham, early night tonight me thinks
  13. FT: Plymouth Parkway 3 (A. Bentley 13, Carter 56, 75 pen) Brislington 1 (N. Plummer 25) PARKWAY PATIENCE AND PERSEVERANCE PAYS OFF A decent crowd of 212 were in attendance as Parkway entertained Brislington looking to maintain their challenge towards the top of the league. They made 3 changes from last week’s victory at Westbury with new signing Jordan Bentley replacing the suspended Nick Milton in central defence and Jamie Lowry and Teigan Rosenquest starting in midfield in place of Jack Calver and Michael Landricombe. Parkway made a sharp start and almost took the lead on 4 minutes. A good interchange between Lowry and Rosenquest set up Billy Palfrey whose angled shot came off the inside of the post and rolled along the line before being cleared to safety. With Brislington packing the midfield area and defending deep, Parkway were forced to work hard to create openings with the impressive Lowry well supported by Shane Krac and Palfrey in central midfield seeing plenty of the ball with Rosenquest and Mikey Williams lively on the flanks. On 10 minutes good play between Lowry and Adam Carter set up Williams who fired just wide. Parkway’s early pressure paid off as they took the lead on 13 minutes. A corner from the right deep to the far post found Aaron Bentley rising the highest to squeeze a header into the top corner. Parkway continued to threaten with more good approach play from Krac ending with a header by Carter being blocked with Ben Payter in the visitors goal saving well from Williams follow up shot on 16 minutes. On 22 minutes a penetrating move along the right with Lowry and Williams prominent saw the ball laid back to Krac who fired over from 25 yards. Little had been seen of the visitors as an attacking force with Neikell Plummer looking isolated up front and it was somewhat of surprise when they drew level on 25 minutes with arguably their first meaningful attack. A free kick wide on the right was poorly defended with the ball being recycled and delivered back into the danger area with more hesitant Parkway defending allowing Plummer to react quickest to the loose ball, hooking home from close range. Parkway continued to dominate possession in trying to build from the back however Brislington were defending strongly and pressing hard in midfield denying Parkway time on the ball to create too many openings or clear chances. Despite their final ball sometimes lacking quality against a well organised Brislington defence and a lack of composure at key times, Parkway continued to be patient in their build up with Carter firing high and wide on 43 minutes. The final action of the half saw a mazy run and powerful shot from Williams being superbly saved by Payter. A half generally dominated by Parkway with Brislington proving hard to break down and defending strongly and doing well to go into the break on level terms. Parkway started the second half at a high tempo and a flowing move on 49 minutes between Krac, Williams and Rosenquest ended with a Palfrey snap shot from 18 yards being palmed over by Payter. From the corner a Jordan Bentley shot from around 20 yards was deflected over shortly before another Palfrey effort was deflected wide as the visitors came under increasing pressure. With the hard working Carter continuing to cause problems with his strength and clever link up play, his persistence eventually paid off on 54 minutes when he was clattered in the penalty area by Payter who received a yellow card. However the keeper quickly redeemed himself by guessing correctly and diving the right way to save Jordan Copp’s spot kick. Parkway were not to be denied for long and they retook the lead on 56 minutes. Determined work and persistence by Krac on the left saw him pinch the ball from a defender, drive to the bye line and lay the ball back to the predatory Carter who slotted home from close range. Parkway continued to dictate play and another penetrating run towards the 18 yard area on the hour by Williams was halted by a blatant shirt pull from Mark Fear who was rightly yellow carded. Brislington continued to battle hard and compete well as they came under increasing pressure but rarely managed to get into the Parkway half. Fear was replaced by Josh Knight on 63 minutes as they looked to introduce fresh legs on the sapping surface. With Williams a constant threat with his direct running and good close control, he laid the ball into Krac who linked well with Carter whose shot on the turn from 15 yards was deflected wide for another corner. With the Parkway full backs now being given more time and space to push forward, a telling run and cross from Aaron Bentley was deflected for a corner by a tiring Brislingon defence. With Parkway continuing to dominate and show patience and persistence, more good work by Williams found Carter in the 18 yard area and his clever lay off saw Krac pull a shot agonisingly wide of the far post. On 75 minutes Parkway were awarded their second penalty, hotly disputed by the visitors. A strong, determined run into the penalty area from deep by the increasingly influential Krac saw him brought down some 10 yards from goal with this time Carter stepping up to take the spot kick calmly sending Payter the wrong way to extend the Parkway lead. Daniel Adams then replaced Mike Rimmer for Brislington with Fletcher Williams coming on for the quietly efficient, neat and tidy Palfrey who had contributed well in the congested midfield. With Brislington offering little up front Parkway continued to press with Rosenquest showing good skill to work his way in from the left with his stinging shot being deflected on 82 minutes. Krac, who had put in an excellent second half performance, was replaced by recent acquisition Francis Rowlands on 86 minutes as Parkway looked to see the game out. Entering stoppage time another penetrating run from Rosenquest saw his fine strike superbly tipped over by Payter, one of his many terrific saves of the afternoon. A hard working, gritty Parkway performance who had to show patience and perseverance to break down a dogged and spirited Brislington who defended resolutely throughout whilst rarely putting the Parkway defence under pressure or testing Kyle Moore. With leaders Bradford Town defeating bottom club Odd Down (Bath) 4-0, Parkway remain in second place 3 points behind with a game in hand. Exmouth moved menacingly into third place 3 points behind Parkway also with a game in hand after a 2-0 home victory over Bitton. Parkway have the opportunity to go top on Tuesday should they win at the unpredictable Keynsham Town on their 3G pitch before embarking on the cross country 325 mile trek to Suffolk next weekend for the 4th round (last 32) FA Vase tie with Eastern Counties League side Woodbridge Town. As always many thanks to Graham for his report.
