Penzance Newlyn Non Athletico 3-2 St Agnes Bolsters

Att - 18

Unbeaten Penzance climb to third place in the league after a hard fought home win over St agnes Bolsters. Penzance go two up only to see St Agnes fight back to equalise before the home side pulled ahead with the goal of the game just after the hour mark.

The game starts off fairly evenly with neither side having much of a sniff at a chance before Phil Shapcott puts The Magpies ahead in the 16th minute with some great individual skill. The ball is knocked forward through the middle to Phil who side jinks two defenders, rounds the keeper and strolls the ball into the net.

The game becomes end to end for the rest of the half. Penzance head over the bar from close range, St Agnes shoot high only to see the keeper grab it on the line, before Penzance play the ball around the edge of the box resulting in a high volley forcing the St Agnes keeper to leap and finger-tip the ball from under his bar and away for a corner.

Just as it looks like being 1-0 at half-time, two minutes into injury time Penzance break right into the box, where a two-footed challenge sees referee, Jordan Myatt, point to the spot. Up steps Joe Osman who duely dispatches the spot-kick to further the Penzance lead.

H-T

St Agnes must have had a good team talk during the break as they come out all guns blazing and score twice within 6mins of the restart.

On 46mins a route-one ball on the right to Dan O'Toole sees him lob the keeper from the edge of the 18yd box to pull the first goal back.

5mins later a corner on the right is knocked in, headed back out by the defence, St Agnes square the ball left, volley and the ball deflects off Aggie player Rupert Arch and wrong foots the keeper.

The game is all square with all to play for. Several long balls from both sides in the next few minutes are easily dealt by the defences until the 63rd minute when a long ball from the back, down their left, sees Penzance get down to the goal-line. The ball is laid off to Ben Carroll who turns and volleys a 25yd curler into the far back corner of the net past the slightly un-sighted St Agnes keeper. Great goal!

St Agnes press forward and manage to get the ball to run across the face of goal two or three times but out of the reach of their attacking players.

A shot from Penzance skims the top of the bar, a free header hits the bar and away with the Aggie keeper beaten.

The game gradually slows down due to tired legs and the heat but there are occasional scare for both keepers until the ref calls full time with Penzance pressing to increase their lead.
