Sending off statistics

Recommended Posts

Just wondering what the stats would be on sendings off in the league. I bet there are more sent off for bad language or violent conduct than making a bad challenge.

It would seem as though referees are reluctant to send a player off for a bad challenge as they're never 100% sure that it happened as such.

Yet bookings and sendings off are more frequent with bad language

Is that because referees aren't strong or confident enough to issue a card for a foul.

I played a vets game last week, one of our players was tripped up from behind when the ball was two yards in front of him. Referee didn't even speak to the player let alone book him for a blatant foul. I know it's only vets but this is when football can become a free for all when things get let go

I've heard players brag about yellows and refs about how many they've dished out. They're all human beings so bound to be a few idiots amongst them all... I think it's a good idea to dish out cards for bad language but find it worse when watching some shocking tackles go unpunished. I'd rather hear swearing than watch a borderline assault get punished with a yellow. Way it is these days

when i first started refereeing some 20 odd years ago

i had a player who was moaning about everything even a throw in which went his way

i call him over and said ... mate do me a favour will you F...OFF out of my face for 5 mins will you. your doing my head in..

you should of seen his face it was a pict..  but he never said anything all game afterwards, and he even said after the game thanks for the chat

As I said, a few home truths from refs and the players would take notice.eradicate foul mouthed players from football by severe punishment.tell them to f##k off first as a warning, and if that dont work get the red out.i like discipline, humiliation is the answer.
Players swear at refs all the time and most they get away with it.
Dissent must be harshly treated.anyone f words 6 month ban.
they would soon stop!!

The only way to stop bad language is to have a official with something about them, far too many let things slide just because they either don't know how to handle situations or don't want to handle them.

I'm not a big believer in dishing out cards left right and centre, many officials dont feel the need to do this as they have better man management skills and things do not escalade as they make the players know early doors today isn't going to be one of those days gents! I do think the CCFA and FA should encourage regular seminars to enable officials to gain some experiance in these type of situations, not just a cuppa around a table and a chin wag, actual scenarios involving games, tackles, foul language, threatening behaviour from players and management etc etc.

Why is it if you attend a swppl match players can swear at both linesman and ref and nothing is done even though there is a big crowd who also heard it. Go to a little club in Trelawney Div 4 maybe only a couple of spectators someone misses a shot nd shouts f##k it and receives a straight red
