Duchy League Result- 27-8-14

St Minver 2-1 AFC Bodmin

Good, competitive game against an organised AFC side. Minver took the lead through a Dan Jennings thunderbolt. Bodmin replied with a ranged effort going straight through our stand in keeper. Chris Simmons headed the eventual winner 5 minutes after we had missed from the spot.

Overall a good game of football played in the right spirit and very well refereed.

Duchy Prem - Lostwithiel v Pelynt (Postponed)

Relentless afternoon rain and bad light meant the game had to be cancelled. Pitch had only been cut that day so we were unable to mark the sodden pitch also.

Apologies to Pelynt for the wasted journey.........frustration all round!!!

Alturnan 2 LC Phoenix 0

Alturnan took three points from this Duchy 1 derby though Phoenix will rue not taking their chances or creating enough opportunities to unsettle an experienced Alturnan side.

Good luck to Alturnan for the rest of the season. Launceston College Phoenix now look forward to a tricky away game against Edgcumbe on Saturday.

Grampound res 0 : 5 veryan

An under par perfomance by veryan last night! Especially in the first half especially but give alot of credit to grampound for putting pressure on us! They put in alot an at half time they werre rewarded by going in 0:0 at half time! After half time veryan didnt take long to take the lead through a justin trebilcock goal! Grampound kept themselves in the game for the next 15 mins but when a good move down the right sode with ollie young being fouled lead to a bobby lee jons free kick where martin bishop met at the back post with a good looped header over the good grampound keeper!! Veryan using the rolling sub very well with changin alot of personel! Within the last 15 mins they notched a further 3 goals with ollie young, craig phillips an an og! In the dying mins grampound never gave up an with a good move ended with a great save from andy wheildon in the sticks for veryan! Good luck to the grampound lads for the season! Mom martin bishop capped off a good game with a goal an was outstanding in the heart of veryans defence! Next we face an away trip to bostcastle hopefully we put in a good performance up there!

Surely they shouldn't have needed to travel if you hadn't marked the pitch? Didn't you let them know? The bad light thing is odd as other games were played locally.

The pitch was going to be marked early evening before kick off but with the grass being so wet it didnt stick when our chap tried to do it! Unfortunately the council only scheduled to cut the pitch that day. Pelynt were contacted as soon as possible but it was late in the day and some of the players had already left. To be fair the light wasn't good in Lostwithiel either and the rain continued to lash down.

Believe me, we were all annoyed with what happened.

If they were contacted why did they travel? When did you contact them? How come the light was so bad in Lostwithiel but other games were played close to you. Rat being smelt here! Sounds like total disrespect for the opposition and a poor start to being in Premier. St Newlyn do this sort of thing and have lost points. Same should happen here. Very poor advert for the league.

No rat at all. Our lads all turned up expecting to play and were sat in the changing rooms, so it wasn't like we purposely got the game postponed. We all wanted to play but the combination of the grass being cut by the council contractor that afternoon in the rain and then us turning up to mark the pitch but unable to do so was not our fault.

We have apologised to Pelynt and yes it was an embarrassing situation but not done on purpose. The local council are more to blame than anyone here. Its a nightmare for any club that uses a council pitch. It never stopped raining the whole night and the light was very bad, so I dont think we'd have got the full 90 minutes played.

It was an unfortunate turn of events that we hope won't be repeated. I really dont understand why you choose to interrogate us on the forum like this?

Interrogation is a little harsh. Just asking questions about your statements. You still haven't said when you advised the opposition that you wouldn't be able to play the game. Just seems odd that you didn't tell them before they left. Journey from Pelynt to Lostwithiel maybe 15 minutes so you only had to have called 15 minutes before they arrived to have saved them the journey.

I didnt make the call to them. Our chap who came to do the pitch rang them. I turned up straight from work at around 5.30pm to find out that the game wasn't going to happen. I dont know the exact time Pelynt were contacted but some of them were already on the way.

As i've said several times now it was an unfortunate situation and all the Lostwithiel lads had turned up expecting to play.
