Guest
TROON 0 – 9 MULLION (H/T 0-4) Att: 21 A pleasant November afternoon at Grouter Park saw Mullion, as expected progress to the quarter finals of the Jolly’s Combination League Cup at the expense of a battling Troon team. The goalscoring started in the 19th minute when an inswinging corner to the near post was headed into the net by a Troon defender. As blatant own goal as you can get and rightly so the corner taker admitting that he couldn’t claim it. Eight minutes later Alan Thomas was on hand to head Mullion into a two goal lead. After 37 minutes, Rob Carey scored a fine goal with a shot from the edge of the box and even though Troon kept trying, that really set the seal on the game and it was always going to be a case of how many more goals there would be. One more before half time came in the 40th minute when Rob Carey headed in a near post corner. Two more goals followed in the first six minutes of the second half, Thomas netting his second and Phil Cattran scoring the first of his brace. His second goal came in the 55th minute when he blasted home Mullion’s seventh. With 15 minutes remaining, Mullion bagged their eighth goal from the penalty spot. Three minutes later Carey achieved his hat trick with a neat piece of trickery as he rounded the keeper and waltzed though to blast it into the net. I didn’t notice if it was the perfect hat trick although he head enough time to decide which part of the body he wanted to score with. There was enough time for double figures but Troon held out, even after a shot hit one post then rolled along the line, another shot ended up in the side netting and the keeper made a good save – one of several he made. The Mullion keeper, Lugg, also made a great save to maintain his clean sheet although his main task was to pluck crosses out of the air and a quick throw out often started an attacking move as the home side were often sluggish in getting back to defend. A late sub for Troon saw a number 98 make an appearance. One of two random numbers the manager Jody Marles said. It summed up Troon. Despite many heavy defeats this season they seem to be enjoying their football which in the long run is the main thing. They played with spirit and didn’t resort to “rough-housing” tactics although there were a few silly fouls committed. Referee Tim Reeks had a good game and got the major decisions correct. Although it started ominously when he called the linesmen together and then disappeared to the changing rooms to get his flags! He explained why he gave what he did and the quote of the day in my opinion was “You lost the ball, don’t blame the referee”.

justsomerandom
Great team performance by redruth yesterday could have easily been double figures. Shane Richards playing great football with two motm performances in last two games. Barrie with arguably save of season and finally a rare clean sheet

MJP
Good game for the spectators at Wendron yesterday, I was delighted to come away with the 3-2 win over a very hard to beat Helston side. overall we deserved the win, Barry making a couple of unbelievable saves to keep Helston in the game, and Justin Miles's header in the last minute was worthy of winning any game. Always good to see Blakey, and I now hope that they can go on and beat some of the other top sides during the rest of the season.
