  2. I have some insight from both sides as I am on the Duchy committee and I am also the player / manager of Holywell. I don't know the origin of the 3 strike rule but like some urban myth it had been hanging above Holywell's head since the first 2 games of the season due to the manager going AWOL. I recall something being mentioned in a committee meeting early in the season about it and it never having been invoked. As a former Holywell player I said I would take over the running of the club for the rest season and reassured the league we should be fine as I would be assembling a new squad. It has been the case in the past that teams who have struggled have withdrawn from the league before a third no-show. Therefore we were all primed from early in the season that this rule could be applied due to Holywell failing to raise a team for the first two games of the season (Nanpean and Polzeath). As this is the first season without the input of Paul AND Mike who have been colossal in the implementation and governance of the league rules I think we were all blinded by this ruling that was merely mentioned in a meeting. When Tintagel had their results expunged I went through every game and my input was this really doesn't change anything for anyone anywhere in the league. Then when we (Holywell) were undone by the school holidays and golf comp decimating our squad of old codgers I knew we would follow suit. Again I looked at all the results and after discussion with Derek and Colin agreed that despite us having one game left and being able to fulfil it we would have to follow the rule as there were again no further ramifications or repercussions on any of teams in the division. Holywell still had a squad and would look to be voted back in at the AGM. I recall saying at the time it's a good job there isn't anything on the line affected by this. This has been the problem here. Mike and Paul have been monumental over the years making the Duchy league what it is. The first two decisions have been incorrectly followed through as it looked a straight forward case of a team who was struggling in the league and struggling to put a side out being removed by an incorrect rule, and the same thing being applied to Holywell despite the 3rd strike happening during a time when the squad was in a healthy position but was undone by the weekend in question. Because both teams had 0 impact on other sides chances of survival or fighting for the title things seemed too straightforward. If there was ever an instance where as mentioned by some on here that someone on the committee could bend rules to help their team out then this would have been the situation IF the rules had gone the other way and kept Holywell in the league, rather than putting the club at the mercy of a re-election. We all believed the rule to be correct and as such without delving any deeper took it as gospel, hence Holywell taking their medicine as per 'rule'. Everything seemed fine up until the Polperro situation which did have ramifications and did come under more scrutiny as clubs have been asking about the rules and this is where the issue with the previous balls up of the application of this rule came to light. The whole situation is a mess, but it hasn't been the clandestine decision making process some people seem to be under the impression it has. It's been pretty much me, Derek, Tracy and the other guys on the committee trying our best to keep the league going under ever more testing times.
  3. I contemplated that, but I guarantee once I mentioned we were going with 7 that number becomes 4 or 5 as some of the lads wouldn't have wanted to waste their afternoon.
  4. More a rule following than a withdrawl. The club was in chaos at the start of the year as the previous manager had no interest and two games were given as walkovers as no squad was organised.. I stepped in and steadied the ship and we have put a squad out every week, unfortunately Meva away clashed with the doubles golf championship a load of the lads were in, injuries, teachers away on holiday and suspensions coupled with the registration window closing meant we only had 7. We would have 20+ available for the final home game vs Lanivet, but the 3 strike rule was invoked, as it was with Tintagel a few weeks earlier. It wouldn’t have been fair for us to play Lanivet with an overpowered squad (by our standards) as we shouldn't be in the league by rule and as they still have a hand on second place. Just got to hope we get get voted back in at the AGM.
  5. The game was postponed on Friday as one of the Looe squad had unfortunately passed away in an accident on Thursday evening. Thoughts and condolences from the league go out to Looe Town FC
  6. At the start of the season the committee had a meeting to try and figure out what the protocols should be and the general consensus was if a few players have it there should be enough players still signed on to get the match played. We didn't want COVID to be a free pass to have the weekend off if teams were missing a few of their better players etc. We did also say that we would have to keep a constant eye on the situation as at the time COVID infections were fairly low and the world had more of a sense of normality back then. In the earlier part of the season there were a few instances of teams asking for a postponement because of COVID but were told you should have more than enough back up to cover the absentees. Since then COVID infections have gone mad again and the vaccinations don't appear to have had the level of protection we assumed they would have had back in the summer. It's now got to a stage were common sense prevails and if there is a COVID outbreak amongst a team we will postpone matches. In the case of Nanpean, Derek left the decision to the committee and given the circumstances (They played Tregrehan the week before who then had a quite a large COVID outbreak the following week and couldn't play the next Saturday) we felt it was a no-brainer to cancel. A look in depth at the Duchy fixtures the last few weeks will show that there have been ever increasing numbers of postponements for COVID. While it is so rife we will look to postpone games in the best interests of everyone. I hope that helps clarify the situation a little better. Cheers Dan Code Duchy Fixtures Secretary

It looks like these issues are now sorted so the Fixtures will be online tomorrow and linked to the Duchy Website.
  8. To keep everyone in the loop The Duchy League fixtures will start appearing online next week, there have been a few technical hold ups that have delayed the release of the 2021-22 Full-Time site (WGS set up transitioning to full-time). There is a new issue that won't be resolved until Monday that will prevent fixtures being published (administrive permissions being allowed that are going to take 48-hours to process).
  9. Hello the chaps. The official reason is as follows. To get the fixtures out in decent time they had to be published before the CCFA had conducted the junior cup draw. Without knowing so few teams would be involved and with it also being FA Vase weekend I agreed with Liam to not add any duchy games as at the time it was unknown who would / wouldn't be involved and that refs would be at a premium. I have to say I was surprised at how few teams were involved in the Junior Cup first round, but knowing any new games would strain what refs are available common sense dictated a blank weekend. Its certainly strange times starting quite late this year and already having a blank weekend for alot of clubs. Polzeath and Budr organised their fixture between themselves knowing they may not get an official. But it was a risk they were willing to take. St Cleer have also approached me and Lanivet this evening via Derek Waker about a fixture so any Duchy Premier & Div Two clubs who are keen should let me know asap (premiersixes@googlemail.com), however, there is no guarentee any new games will be allocated a ref so you could be scrambling around for a local ref come Saturday morning.
  10. Yes feel free to arrange a friendly for Sept 5th. The date was set to allow for things to settle down in these crazy times.
  11. Yes the fixtures will be released this week. The first league matches are pencilled in for 12th Sept. Junior Cup looks like being 19th Sept so I will add games for 26th Sept, 3rd Oct and 10th Oct and post the rest when the county dates for the season are published.
  12. To echo Paul's comments the first fixtures are an absolute doddle so once we have clarified all clubs are prepared to start the season under these unusual circumstances it wont take very long to add the first half of the season to Full-time. Also with it being a later start and not so much interference (if any) from the cricket I won't face the usual issues of having to delay some teams home fixtures.
  13. Draws held at tonight's committee meeting at CCFA headquarters. Andy Ould (Wadebridge) and Tracey Banfield (St Dennis) drew the home and away teams. Some pretty epic ties in both cups. Knockout Cup Quarter-Finals Gunnislake Vs Altarnun Holywell & Cubert Vs Pensilva Tregrehan Mills or Lostwithiel Vs Boscastle St Newlyn East or Stoke Climsland Vs Polperro Shoe Boy Cup Quarter-Finals Delabole Vs Boscastle Res North Petherwin Res or St Stephen Res Vs Nanpean Southgate Seniors Vs Bude 2nds St Dominick Res or St Cleer Res Vs St Columb Major Where possible ties will take place on the weekend of April 4th.
  14. This is a copy of the email that we have sent to all Duchy secretaries. I thought it would be an idea to copy it here so players can also see and understand the situation and how we are looking to resolve it. Hello everyone, There is going to be significant fixture disruption in the coming weeks and months as the fallout of the adverse bad weather takes its toll. We are at a stage now were any postponed cup games are scheduled automatically the following week to ensure we don't have a backlog. This is in turn going to disrupt league fixtures. Where possible I am scheduling other league games but at times this isn't always possible due to pitch availability and teams having already played each other. We still have a round of quarter-final matches to slot in so there will be further changes to games already on the system. We also have issues being at the bottom of the food chain as senior cancellations are taking pitch slot options off the table for games. There is also the added burden that in 6-7 weeks the cricket season begins meaning quite a few teams are going to lose their home pitches so there is a necessity to amend fixtures where possible to get these games completed. With Saturdays becoming extremely limited for games in an increasing number of cases I am looking to schedule as many of the longer distance games as possible to minimize travel for the inevitable midweek games. It's a crazy time of year and it seems to be an endless list of new games to reschedule. To ensure we get all the games in as smoothly as possible can I ask you all to not take the scheduled fixtures as set in stone as there will need to be refinements each Sunday when the dust has settled from the Saturday games to make the relevant amendments. Cheers all and good luck for the season Dan Code Duchy League Fixtures Secretary
