  1. Well done to everyone at Launceston College Phoenix for getting promoted into Duchy Premier today. When we started out as a newly formed club in 2009, most of the players were 16-18, so it's great to see some of the original players (now in their early-mid 20s) and some much younger ones working hard over the season to get us into Duchy Prem.
  2. Minver have the makings of a decent senior football club with the ground and facilities you have in place. There might be a few things that need developing but good luck to the club- we've always enjoyed playing you at your ground.
  3. Frustrating for us too at Phoenix, Paul. The decision to cancel was out of our hands and we tried as soon as we were told to book Callington 3G but no luck. Anyway, it sounds like you watched a decent game and hopefully you'll come and watch the rescheduled match.
  4. LC Phoenix 11 Premier Sixes 1 Despite the score line, huge respect to Prem Sixes for making the journey with only ten players. They frustrated the alumni team in the early stages of the game and it took a scrappy goal from Josh Barron to give Phoenix the lead. Then Sixes equalised quickly and a key moment in the game- the sending off of both Phoenix and Premier Sixes players meant the away team were reduced to 9 players against a Phoenix side that started using the extra man and space with more purpose. Phoenix scorers included Jowan Knights (3), Mike Steele (3), Josh Barron, Cam Bailey (2) Sam Iggulden and an og.
  5. LC Phoenix 3 Gerrans & St Mawes 0 Tough conditions for both sides but Launceston College Phoenix made it five straight wins in a row to improve their promotion chances. Josh Barron with a brace and Darren Webber with the other helped the alumni team ease past a decent Gerrans side.
  6. We just have to get on with things and be grateful for the selfless individuals who put so much of their time into administrating and running the league. And our league falls in one of the wettest parts of the country, so fixture delays are inevitable.
  7. St Cleer 0 LC Phoenix 3 Launceston College Phoenix took all three points in their final game of the season against good-spirited hosts St Cleer. Nathan Cox scored in the first half, while Josh Barron grabbed a brace in the second half; his last goal a delightful top corner effort after beating two centre-backs. The White Hart Hotel Man of the Match award: Josh Barron.
  8. Bodmin 2 LC Phoenix 6 A much welcomed return to winning ways for the alumni team as Launceston College Phoenix outplayed Bodmin for most the game. Man of the match Jake Benney scored a brace, as did skipper Nathan Cox. There was also a goal apiece for Ryan Julien and Jamie Barton, who claimed his first alumni goal after an excellent free kick routine involving Paul Smith and Darren Webber. Good luck to Bodmin who seem a good bunch of boys.
  9. Good luck, Barry- there's bound to be a suitable manager out there. We've always enjoyed playing you- you've got a great bunch of boys at Calstock who can play some good football but also play the game in a friendly spirit.
  10. St Minver 1 LC Phoenix 1 An intriguing game, this one. Minver started brightly and, predictably, moved the ball about with poise and purpose. However, Phoenix were disciplined in their positional awareness and afforded Minver very little. Sixteen year old Sam Iggulden-a product of the alumni team's in-house recruitment policy- set the tone for Phoenix with a dominant display of energy and drive, frequently breaking up Minver movement in the middle of the field and enabling Phoenix to launch testing counter- attacks. The Phoenix goal came courtesy of a keeper slip; Nathan Cox's lofted diagonal far post cross found the top right corner after the Minver keeper ( who generally had a solid game) lost his footing. Minver came back and grabbed an equaliser before half time to set up an engaging second half. The game ebbed and flowed, with Launceston College Phoenix's Cam Bailey running the Minver defence ragged; Minver switched to a 352 formation to put pressure on the Phoenix defence, but it was a risky strategy with Bailey needing two and sometimes three Minver players to nullify his threat. Minver threatened several times in the last 20 minutes but produced very little to cause injured stand-in keeper Paul Smith any real concern. That they found little opportunity came directly from the organisation of the Phoenix defence and the commitment of the Phoenix midfield to track their players. As the game entered its final stages the referee, who had an excellent game in the face of some very vocal criticism from some Minver players, showed a red card to a Phoenix player for raising a hand to an opponent to set up a tense final few moments. Minver pushed for a winning goal, yet it was Phoenix who nearly snatched all three points in the final minute as another alumni counter-attack exposed Minver once again. A draw was probably a fair result, and given that Phoenix fielded 5 youngsters in their first year of adult football they were right to be the more satisfied side when the final whistle blew. The White Hart Hotel Man of the Match Award- Sam Iggulden; fearless and effective against a quality Minver midfield
  11. St Magwan 1 LC Phoenix 3 Launceston College Phoenix went into this game against top of the table St Magwan a couple of players short. It did mean, however, that new signings Jake Benney and Paul Smith were able to impress, while stand in keeper, Jack Rich, had a solid game. Phoenix were organised and driven from the start and went in at half time one goal up thanks to a Luke Williams powerdrive. Benney scored a brace- the first a quality near post header- to give the alumni team the edge in a challenging away fixture. The White Hart Man of the Match award- Nathan Cox: a superb shift from the skipper, who organised, cajoled and drove Phoenix on.
  12. LC Phoenix 4 Godophin 2 This was an entertaining game with both sides showing a commitment to scoring goals. Launceston College Phoenix went ahead through a superb long range strike from Darren Webber. Josh Barron added the alumni teams second with a chipped effort and there were goals for debutants Jake Benney and Jed Parnell. Jack Rich, who stood in for the absent Nick Oldaker, had a decent game between the sticks. Phoenix man of the match: Darren Webber
  13. Foxhole 4 LC Phoenix 1 Foxhole deserved this for two significant reasons. They took their chances well and had more players on the field who wanted to battle for the points today. Phoenix started brightly enough but a disappointing 25 minutes in the game saw them go in at half time four goals down. The alumni team played much better in the second half with Nathan Cox earning the consolation goal from the penalty spot. The White Hart Hotel Man of the Match award: Darren Webber- played with the desire lacking in too many other Phoenix players.
  14. LC Phoenix 4 Premier Sixes 2 Launceston College Phoenix engaged in an entertaining game from the off, with Darren Webber scoring early for the alumni team. Premier Sixes, however, have some very dangerous attacking players who will cause any team problems this season. The away team equalised shortly after only for Phoenix to go ahead after sustained pressure led to an own goal. The lead didn't last long and some poor defending allowed the visitors to draw level again. Both sides went looking for the three points in the second half, though Phoenix showed more intent, especially down the right flank where skipper Nathan Cox started finding more space. Phoenix's third goal was a well worked team effort that saw Ryan Julian, in his first competitive game of the season, time his run into the box and drill home. Then in the dying minutes of the game, man of the match Joe Davis took advantage of a Phoenix counter attack to carry the ball 60 yards and put the game out of reach. The White Hart Hotel Man of the Match award- Joe Davis; his running and directness was a constant threat.
  15. Edgcumbe 1 LC Phoenix 3 Launceston College Phoenix made the long journey to Edgcumbe full of trepidation after losing a few players less than 24 hours before kick-off. However, the team really clicked during this match and three well worked goals- the last two were absolutely outstanding- raised team spirits after their opening day loss. A mention has to go to Pat Davis who stepped in between the posts for Phoenix and put in a solid shift despite usually playing outfield. The White Hart Hotel Man of the Match award: Jake Collings- a tenacious and skillful performance in midfield and a stunning first goal of the season.
