Foxhole withdraw from SWPL

Recommended Posts

From the SWPL :

"The officers of the Carlsberg South West Peninsula League were saddened to receive notification from Foxhole Stars AFC that they have withdrawn from the West Division following a loss of manager and players. The Foxhole club were foubder members of the league and although on-pitch success has proved elusive, off the pitch they have made many friends. The matter has to be dealt with under league rules and the club will receive written notification in the next few days of the penalty for late withdrawal."

Foxhole will have to start from the bottom I'm afraid!! Sad times indeed especially for the people behind the scenes who put so much into these clubs.

Unfortunately as already mentioned a combination of too many teams / leagues and the fact that journeymen go from club to club following their mates / a certain manager will always result in this happening!!!

The sooner committees see this the better their clubs will be for not chasing the quick success they all strive for!

Its a real shame for the club but 16 teams should be enough in a league anyway.

Clubs cannot continue to find linesmen, physios, committee members, money collectors, tea servers, shed painters, kit washers, treasurers, secretaries, sponsors and the occasional few bodies to wear the kit on a Saturday and entertain the supporters who have to then find the money to come and watch!!!!

Sad times.

B Manning, if i am wrong i will apologise, but don't the CCFA have to sanction extra leagues ? i.e SWPL Premier, East and West - ECPL Premier and ECPL Div One -

5 Leagues when a few years ago it was Cornwall South Western League and East Cornwall Premier League.

These leagues can't just start a League up without the Approval of the County they Affiliate to.

Best not forget the Jollys Cornwall Combination League ! 😃

unitedrhino, Please may I ask what extra leagues ? I may be wrong but I think CSWPL is an FA League, all the other league`s as I stated are long well established not just suddenly been sanctioned. Pointers the CCFA do not run any Leagues all they run is an FA cup competition in line with the rest of the County FA`s.

Cornwall South Western League - East Cornwall Premier League and Cornwall Combination League - That was all the Senior Leagues Cornwall had.

Now there are 3 SWPL and 2 ECPL + The Cornwall Combination, so their are 3 extra Senior Leagues to start with.

Extra Players, more travelling and of course MONEY needed.

unitedrhino, How can i put it so you can understand, the CSWPL is an FA league and part of the pyramid system as set out by the FA not the CCFA which is a County FA. It has a requirement for two feeder leagues which are the East & West Divisions. Now the ECPL due to teams wishing to enter split into two divisions (still basically the same league) also recently the Mining and Falmouth & Helston league`s amalgamated to form a single League so now down West we have instead of two Leagues with four divisions each we have one League with five divisions. I hope that helps.

Dear oh dear! How can people be so out of touch with what is really happening in local football and then rest the blame for everything on the CCFA. To start with, not all Clubs playing in SWPL West are Cornish Clubs (Vospers & Holsworthy) and all 18 Clubs in SWPL East are Devon Clubs - as are about half of Premier Clubs. I'm not saying that the current demise of Clubs/Teams should not be investigated (which it is by the FA both nationally and locally). Society has changed over the years and local football has remained much the same; Clubs with money prosper, those without struggle. Too few players committed to playing at the highest level they can achieve - preferring to "play with their mates"; The whole ethos of Clubs needs to change to accommodate the desires of those who wish to play the game. I could go on but suffice it to say, none of this is the fault of the CCFA.

Clubs are part of the community and should remain so. Ambition is one thing but it can also kill a club. Take Penzance for example, the majority of away trips would equate to a minimum of 60 mile round trip, how far can the club feasibily go in the pyramid?

For a club to progress it needs to be sustainable, there aren't many at SWPL level that can sustain things as they currently are. Soon as the money dries up at clubs then players will leave

Nb. There are the odd exception

Quite right St Darren - sustainability is what it's all about. The Club (community) provides the facilities to allow players to play and this alone is an expensive proposition in the majority of Clubs: County affiliations, County Cup entry fees, League subscriptions, insurances, Business Rates, ground rent, training facility hire, playing kit, laundry, gas, electricity, water, pitch maintenance, referees, away travel all have to be paid for. Revenue at the gates is falling and sponsors/advertisers are becoming more and more difficult to find - as are committee members to run the Clubs. The result of all this will most certainly see the demise of further Clubs in the future - everybody just hopes it won't be theirs'!

Good luck to all a Foxhole - I'm sure they fully considered all the options and consequences before coming to their decision: as a Club they've given themselves every chance of re-grouping and growing again.

Been saying this for a long time and its not just football, fewer people can be bothered to help others, most just want to look after number one. how many players finish playing and then just walk away? all that experience leaving the game. lots of people cannot even be bothered to stay for a pint after a game and as for collecting subs!!! Anyhow looking forward to the new season let the games begin hopefully we will have some teams to play against :drink:

Someone's got to say it SWP went completely overboard when Truro withdraw from the League Blatter of Cornish football knocking the club was a complete disgrace and did not help Cornish football nationally Greg Dyke had the right idea two fingers to FIFA until they play the game with an even hand
