Chesham's thoughts on first fixture!

Recommended Posts

From their weekly newsletter........

The season kicks off...in Cornwall!

"It could be argued that Chesham were dealt a bum deal when the fixtures were released yesterday. It all started with the Southern League sending a different set of fixtures to clubs to that which they published on the website - Not ideal with only three weeks until the season kicks off. However, what was clear is the fact that Chesham must travel on the near 600 mile round trip to Truro City on the opening day of the season - Confronting the summer holiday traffic and trying to find a hotel for the squad to stay overnight with three weeks notice in the holidays, and with a festival on down near Truro - Thanks for that one!"

And we will older, you wont get any complaints from me, its all part and parcel of being Cornwall's Premier League Club. Makes me laugh though when you get so supporters from say the likes of Newquay and Penzance moaning when they got a round trip of 120 miles to make into Devon. Trust me you lot haven't lived yet.

Ray,

As you know quite a number of teams react as if a trip to Truro is a trip to the end of the world

well it will be when Cornwall becomes the gateway to the universe, maybe then we will have a

new sponsor like Virgin or Mars.

Many clubs are creating about having a local derby against a team 6 miles away at Christmas

and the New Year instead of one 3 miles away saying the away support won't travel unlike us

with Bideford and Weymouth, let's face it the number of times we travel to Eastern England all

games are local derbies for us.

Chesham complain about something each season then come out fighting with a strong team, the last opening day game against Truro City was at Treyew Road and Chesham Utd won 3-0, that season Truro City WON the Southern League, can history repeat itself in our 125th year with another championship?

We are 25/1 with the bookies to do so.

Will this be included in one of your 500+/1 wagers ? I asked before, any chance you can share your wisdom so that perhaps Mr Masters and the other clubs in Cornwall can 'invest' and make a killing ? We could all buy our own grounds, pay for Drogba et al to play, storm up the leagues and eventually the top flight would be based here in Cornwall.

Early in the season to be too serious but looking at what is available at this time I selected an 114/1 (14 match) accumulator just for your amusement. I have put £20 on it as a 'fun' bet (fun because I am selecting from what I think without the study previously mentioned) which if successful pays £2304.74.

Aug 8.. P.S.G @ Reims

Aug 9.. Monaco v Lorient

Aug 9.. Heerenveen v Dordrecht 90

Aug 10 Ajax v Vitesse

Aug 12 Real Madrid v Sevilla

Aug 12 Brighton v Cheltenham

Aug 12 Leeds v Accrington

Aug 12 Reading v Newport County

Aug 12 Wolverhampton Wanderers v Northampton Town

Aug 16 Manchester United v Swansea

Aug 16 Arsenal v Crystal Palace

Aug 17 Liverpool v Southampton

Aug 17 Manchester City @ Newcastle United

Aug 18 Chelsea @ Burnley

The odds for each of these games averages out at approx 2/5 and the first named is the selection.

Wouldn't it be ironic if I won a couple of grand for humouring The Judge and his Nemesis.

If that happened I would resemble the longest word in the dictionary with a grin smiles wide.

I may have won £550 but you don't win those amounts with 500/1 accumulators, the odds are usually in the region of my bet shown above.

Not a bad shout at all there Mountaineer! I'm partial to a little flutter myself!! ;-). Reckon it'll be one of the dodgy midweek league cup games that will let it down if anything?! I agree with you on the non league betting, find there are not so many shock results with the higher quality teams. Made a few quid off Luton last season to be fair. Usually have a fiver on a five or six team accumulator then to the silly 15 team quid job!! Only had one all last season, 17 team Acca, put a quid on, got £478 back for that one. But remember children, betting is a mugs game! You never see a poor bookie do you!! Good luck City, will have a couple quid on that!

Fair play to you Sir, I can't afford a £20 flutter, but will certainly be investing a fiver and hoping to join your celebration, albeit from several hundred miles away.

Obviously I wish you well, I was hoping to get down for the Yeovil Town game but I have a friends funeral to attend and it would have to be a day return, I have booked accommodation for Truro City's opening league game at Treyew Road v Chesham United.
