  1. While I was at Tamarside we looked hard into ways the pitch could be increased in size in order that we may climb the ladder ourselves. It was almost impossible, bar winning the Euromillions jackpot, Ultimately, in addition to it's financial restrictions, the club's inability to offer players a higher standard of football was the reason the senior arm of the club folded. From memory, I think the pitch is as much a 10m too short, and would need to be widened slightly also - but there is room to do that. We investigated cut and fill excavation, digging further into the bank, and allsorts of funding options! I also doubt you would be able to turn the pitch 90 degrees (which would be amazing by the way) as they are very precious about Tamar Saracens RFC down there, who share the changing and clubhouse facilities. That said, I'd love to see a club from the P&WDCL make the step up and I sincerely hope Bar Sol Ona find a way of doing that. Good luck!
  2. To reiterate what Martin has said - the team has been left in a strong position and whoever takes this side on will be inheriting a great group of players with massive potential. Everything is in place for someone to come in and continue where I left off and concentrate purely on the football. My Assistant Neil Mansfield, plus Fitness Coach Brendan Lightfoot are keen to remain involved, which is another positive for all concerned. I can't thank Martin, Luke Ranford, Bill Wakeham and the rest of the Committee enough for the support they have given me since I took over in the summer. If any potential manager is concerned about the support they might receive - they shouldn't be. It's a fantastic club, with friendly, welcoming people that are all singing from the same hymn sheet and want the best for the club. As Martin suggested, I have had to stand down for personal reasons, mostly work related and I have done so with a very heavy heart. Having been involved with managing and coaching at various levels for over 16 years, it was a very tough decision to make - but the right one for me and my family. If anyone has any questions or queries that they might have before making an application to the club, I'd be happy to answer them. Regards Jon

  4. With pleasure Nutmeg After a very disappointing performance on Wednesday night at Liskeard and with as many as 10 players unavailable for a variety of reasons (3 away, 2 suspended, 1 injured, 3 working and 1 with the first team), this was a great performance from us and we were bar far the better side from start to finish. As you suggested, with so many players unavailable we were begging and borrowing on Saturday morning, plus one or two in the squad were carrying injuries, I dragged Tom Barwell and Danny Gill out of retirement for the day and they were excellent for us, as was the returning Ashley O'Rourke. We went behind in the first half, very much against the run of play after conceding a needless penalty. But the referee gave us two bites of the cherry later in the half as Dan Discombe had his penalty saved (sorry Dizzy) and then Carl Powell-Thomas converted the third penalty of the half to square things up at half-time. We played very well in the second half but just could not convert the chances that came our way. Just when I thought we would have to settle for a point, Lloyd Jones eventually found the back of the net with 5mins remaining. We thoroughly deserved the points. In fact we should have won by a much wider margin but just seemed to be lacking some composure in front of goal. Very happy though. Saltash United (4-3-3): Dan Pen-Collins; Danny Gill, Carl Powell-Thomas, Christian Evans, Ashley O'Rourke; Matt Glendinning, Dan Discombe, James Bullen (Shaun Cleary, 70mins); Lloyd Jones, Josh Fedrick (Curtis Damerell, 80mins), Tom Barwell. Sub not used: Mac Kelly.
  5. Liskeard 3, Saltash United 3 Any eventful game at Lux Park last night although, despite the scoreline, I doubt it was that entertaining for the neutral. Without going into too much detail, I felt we were fortunate to get a point last night although, at 3-2 up in injury time the penalty and sending off was extremely harsh, although Liskeard had 2 or 3 shouts for a pen during the game that, from where I was stood, looked more of a pen than the one he gave! So, not a lot of grounds for complaint on that score... we rode our luck most of the night. We started well and for the first 20mins complete dominated but couldn't add to our early 1-0 lead. After that, Liskeard were much the better side on the night and reacted exactly as I had expected them to after their weekend mauling. While missing a number of players, that's not an excuse, we just didn't play well at all and hardly deserved the point we got. Onwards and upwards. Saltash lineup: (4-3-3): Dan Pen-Collins; Josh Fedrick, Carl Powell-Thomas, Christian Evans, Ryan Steel (Jeyon Cardinez, HT); James Bullen (Shaun Cleary, 80mins), Dan Discombe, Matt Glendinning (Scott Coombe, 75mins); Josh Bance, Curtis Damerell, Lloyd Jones. Sub not used: Josh Tapp. Goals: 0-1 (Jones, 5mins), 1-1 (60mins), 2-1 (65mins), 2-2 (Bance, 81mins), 2-3 (Cleary, 86mins), 3-3 (pen, 90+mins). Sent Off: Evans (90+mins)
  6. Due to a long term injury to our regular linesman, Saltash United Reserves require a replacement for the remainder of the season. Expenses are negotiable, with after-match food and a pint also available. Please make contact on 07971 327052. Thanks
  7. I have no complaints as we got exactly what we deserved, although I felt 6-0 was a little unfair on us. Yes, we were missing players. But even with the very young side we had out on the pitch and with the players we brought in, I would have expected us to have performed much better than we did on the day and build on a very good performance at Tavistock in midweek where we should have come away with 3 points. Torpoint destroyed us in the opening 20 minutes and it wasn't until we were 2-0 down that I got a reaction. I felt either side of HT we slightly shaded it and if we had scored, would have gone on to get right back in it... but a mistake, and 3-0, killed us and we completely lost our shape and discipline which disappointed me massively. The referee handled the game well enough, although like most managers, I felt some of the decisions and important moments didn't go our way. The sending off was harsh from where I was stood, but understand the tackle may have looked worse from another angle. It's not a defence, but with a back four aged 18, 18, 20 and 18... Two other 18 year olds in the starting line up, and four on the bench, we are only going to learn and improve... if not be a little inconsistent and niaive on occasions. Well done Torpoint. Took full advantage of a bad day at the Ashes office... but we'll come again and be a better side for it.

  9. Tavistock 3, Saltash United 3 I would imagine this was a great game to watch for the neutral. Two decent sides and lots of action and incident. Pleased with the performance from my lads, although I can't help be a little disappointed not to take all three points. I thought we deserved it. We fielded 5 players aged 18 or under in the starting XI and only 2 aged over 22, so very pleased with their contribution in the opening few games of the season so far. Young striker Curtis Damerell grabbed all three goals for us and was exceptional.
  10. Due to an injury to our regular linesman and the late withdrawal of our replacement, we are looking for someone to run the line for us at Tavistock tonight, 7.30pm kick off. Rates are negotiable!! Please make contact on 07971 327052 Jon Rosevear Saltash United Reserves
  11. Saltash United Res 1, Edgcumbe 4 As said in other ECPL thread, fair play to Edgcumbe, but I am struggling to come to terms with the scoreline last night. It was never a 1-4 game and was a very even contest for much it. I would imagine it was a good watch. Nevertheless, goals win games and the bottom line is Edgcumbe have taken the points. We will play an awful lot worse than that this season and still pick up 3 points.
  12. Saltash United Res 1, Edgcumbe 4 Fair play to Edgcumbe, but I'm still trying hard to come to terms with the scoreline. It was never a 1-4 game but, that's football and we move on! I'm sure we will play an awful lot worse than that this season and pick up 3 points.
  13. Premier Division Saltash United Res v Edgcumbe (7.30pm KO, Kimberley Stadium)
