Torpoint Athletic 5-0 Liskeard Athletic

I was very impressed with what was an extremely young Torpoint side. Their back 4 did not have a player over the age of 20. Cowd (18) and King (18) looked assured in the middle whist flanked by Jessop (17) and Trethewey (19) who constantly provided an attacking threat. Torpoint had the game under control at all times with Waters and Thornton proving very impressive. Tom Payne opened the scoring early on for the home side before missing a chance to double his tally after a fantastic passing move. Walters doubled the lead with a delightful finish from 25 yards that dipped over the keepers head. Thornton then added 2 for himself to cap his superb captain’s performance. Midfielder Reece Shanley completed the scoring. Trethewey saw his late effort cannon back off of the upright as he burst into the area. Liskeard found it hard throughout, I found that their right back and centre half had a very tough time through the lack of pace. Although I'm sure most would whilst dealing with Thornton, Waters and Payne.

Hopefully Torpoint can use this result to kick on as the sides begin to settle. Yet again the club is working well; hopefully it'll all contribute to a trophy in the cabinet.

Good Young Probus side, deserved their victory at a out of sorts Rovers side. Both teams fielding several under 18 players. Probus played some good stuff early doors, although Nanpean were poor defensively and got punished. It could have been a few more in the first period if not for a penalty save and a missed open goal.

Rovers who had a player sent off after 30mins for a tackle in the box and being the last man, created a couple of good chances and a couple of half chances but never really got going.

Probus may have relaxed a little 2nd period, but Nanpean work rate in the 2nd period was exceptionally and we wonder why they didn't do it in the 1st.

Only down side was a Probus supporter shouting for the player to be sent off from 70 metres away. Poor sportsmanship.

Well Done to Probus, good luck to Chris Davey and his Team

Thanks John, good luck to you and your team for the rest of the season.

We started with 6 teenagers on Saturday, with another on the bench. We played our best football of the season in the first half and I felt we were deservedly in control at half time - it was unfortunate that your defender brought down our forward when through on goal, but Gary Cornish didn't have an option as it was an obvious goal scoring opportunity.

Your team played really well in the second half and, despite creating several chances, we couldn't add to our goal tally. Our first clean sheet of the season!

The goals were scored by Sam Bullen, Steven Way and Max Moralee 2 (1 pen).

I thought that Gary Cornish (refereeing our 2nd game in a row after Roche the previous Wednesday!) had an excellent game and he is a ref that communicates really well with the players and makes it an enjoyable afternoon for everyone involved. I hope we get him again later in the season.
