Truro Reserves drop out of SWPL???

Recommended Posts

Didnt they just appoint new managers? Im sure i saw somewhere that Mr Masters (chairman) said that their aim was promotion from swpl west to bridge the gap with the 1st team to offer a higher standard of football for 1st teamers coming back from injury & those sent with the 2nd team?

If this is true, then Truro City are showing a complete lack of respect to the SWPL and clubs in Division One West with the season only a few weeks away. Also, if you are pulling out it would be good idea to tell Phil H first, before putting some vague report on your club website.

Farcical.

Completely contradictory saying the club has ambitions to nurture young local talent when there is no reserve side competing at almost the best local standard.

What a way to get up the backs of loyal fans and loyal players.

Sure, the pitch may cut up and not be in a brilliant state if the weather is as bad as the recent winter, but if you have good enough first team players that shouldn't be a problem!

Unbelievable decision.

I hope that all the players find other clubs asap, it seems they have been treated like dirt by the Chairman. A complete lack of respect from the club the the SWPL and everyone associated with the club. Good luck lads, go play football and enjoy it without the politics.

I wouldnt hold your breath, theres good people at truro that have just been shit on. So what happens when the 1st team pot of money drys up and players leave who will they play then?

As a Truro City supporter I find this utterly embarrassing, the club is scrabbling around asking for volunteers on Tigertalk, given that so many good people have been poorly treated & let go, or left (at least Heanious employed competent club secretaries!) this sort of development comes as no surprise. Shameful way to treat the management & players and especially the officials of a well run league

For the record - here's the City Alert (TCFC email newsletter system to subscribers) sent out this afternoon.........

"Truro City Reserve Team

Following today’s monthly review meeting it has been decided to withdraw our
reserve team from the South West Peninsular League with immediate effect.

For me personally, it has not been an easy decision to accept given that I
had hoped to progress next season. However, on balance I agree it is the
right way forward given our structure, facilities and level of support. I
also share the view that it’s better to do two things well instead of three
things badly.

Those involved last season will know that the unusually inclement weather
caused many cancellation to the First, Reserve and Ladies fixtures, all of
which put unacceptable pressure on my staff and in some cases was
detrimental to the first team performance.

Our First Team Squad numbers will now be increased and we will continue to
build on our relationships with other Cornish Clubs to loan out players who
are not in the first sixteen to ensure adequate game time and fitness,
whilst ready to be called up at short notice. I know that both Steve and
Wayne are already developing links in this respect.

As for the future, with a new Stadium and modern facilities in the planning
stages, Truro City will now look to build a youth academy fit for purpose
that will complement the Club ambitions to achieve promotion to Conference
Premier football, whilst giving the youth of Cornwall every chance to
achieve their ambitions.

Further resources will be made available to our First and Ladies teams.

Peter Masters"

so then seen as the reserve team management found out via the media (like the players & league) it seems astounding they weren't given the chance to have a say on this decision at the 'monthly review meeting' - mushroom management at it's very best

And that makes it right does it? How can the Management at this Club be taken seriously?

I wasn't confirming it's right - I was just copying it to give anyone who wanted to see it and hadn't, the ability to read the actual release. There's just been another release and again I shall repeat it here........

Truro City Reserves

Following the decision to withdraw from the South West Peninsula League. The League secretary was informed of our impending decision at 10.50 am this morning but asked to keep the matter confidential until Wednesday at which point the decision would have been ratified and all the relevant parties informed.

Regretfully the matter was leaked to the media which prompted an immediate press release, simultaneously a notice was posted to the league explaining the circumstances and confirming Truro City’s Notice to withdraw. I wish to apologise for any embarrassment and inconvenience this has caused to the League Board or indeed any other affected party.

Matters of this nature will always be highly emotive to all concerned however given the circumstances I know that the decision to withdraw the reserves from this competition is the right course of action for the long term sustainability of the Club however unpalatable it may be to some. The Club has again clarified the position with the League secretary this evening

As a player I'm absolutely disgusted with the decision!!!!!! The fact that the chairman doesnt have the decency to inform our manager is disgusting in itself!!!!! (And he's still waiting)

The 'club' are priding themselves this year on 125 years of Truro City.......... Well that has been destroyed today with no Truro team playing in cornwall!!!! DISGUSTING!!!!!

The club (which it hasn't been for a long time) is owned by somebody who knows nothing about football, he may of saved the club, but that doesn't give you the right to walk all over people who have been at the 'club' for a long time. A respected businessman maybe....... Football chairman! Far from it!!!

Don't even get me started on the secretary..... She couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery!!!!!!! I'm sure the CCFA will reiterate that.......

Irrespective of all the goings on behind the scenes........ Anybody who knew me knew how much I loved playing for Truro City, I'm absolutely gutted that's been taken away from me!

I for one am outraged by this selfish behaviour and I do hope that if the club is still standing in the future it is not under the guidance of Pete Masters. In other news, I am considering trimming the hair in my bum crack, but may not get around to it.

Stadium will never happen...fact!

Truro will never make conference premier...fact!

They are running one team, not a football club with a structure to it, where have you ever heard of a football team making it to the 5th tier of english football without a reserve team to pull from or to give minutes to guys that need games through loss of form or returning from injury!? White elephant springs to mind..?

Well my son spent 6 months at this , what i described at last season as a shambles of a club, i sat in the club house after a home game for the seconds with my son the managers son & me & the manager at 6 o'clock we were the last ones to leave. id like to say 6 am but it was pm I'm afraid. The club was just empty of atmosphere & above all else PEOPLE. My son told me the presentation night was held at the club and was over in half an hour, where everyone then went down into truro. My son played for the youth teams before moving to torquay & then coming back to truro, having never met the man who runs the club i have been informed by many people at the club that as long as you do what the owner requires you get to stay. It did seem a rather pointless exercise of having a 2nd team when the first team manager told people he had no interest in cornish players as well. And that he would continue to look at players from exeter, argyle and torquay where i believe he coaches. Anyway i for one am delighted it was a shambles end of.

Seriously ?

Have you not read the comments from the SWPL Sec, the players and supporters of TCFC on here and other social platforms. If I go on Friday, it will be in a professional capacity as photographer / reporter for the Newquay Voice, Tania has already promised me a tea at half time albeit in a sky blue mug, although I can't promise I won't drop it. I wouldn't recognise the Chairman of TCFC if I bumped into him, but you can bet there will be a long queue of City fans before me to tell him what they think.

I will state again, I hope that all City players find clubs in Cornwall, and that they enjoy playing football without politics spoiling their fun.

The timing of the seconds withdrawl is awful as fixtures etc had already been put in place and sides had been denied entry to the league, this deserves the £1,000 fine and all the bad publicity associated with this administration mess up, HOWEVER, Truro City do still have their MAIN team, this seems to have provided some ammo for the Truro haters but at the end of the day it was a second string team with too much of a gulf in class between them and the first team for them to be of any real use.

The decision should have been made earlier to allow other teams the chance to play in the league, granted, but from a footballing, financial and logistical perspective dropping a second team that would seem to have little benefit to the first team isn't actually as bad as everyone makes out.

I can't seem to remember any real of hype when several Duchy teams withdrew their reserves last season.

How many hardcore TCFC SECOND team fans are affected by this?????

The first team players who weren't involved would get a game with the seconds. They could play for the seconds as they were returning to fitness. A club the size of Truro needs a reserve team at a competitive standard. They've shot themselves completely in the foot and have alienated even more people.

So what exactly are the providing for the community nowadays? The club has two teams. No more than that. So approximately 30 players

How many of the first team realistically play for the seconds though? Jamie Lowry was signed to Godolphin not Truro seconds, I couldn't see many with the travel involved (Barry Hayles for example) playing in a TCFC second team game. For the standard Truro are playing it seems like the net is being cast quite far to get players good enough as there simply aren't enough cornish based players who can play at the level they are at (they tried last year - it didn't work). It doesn't make any sense to ask a guy living in north Devon or further a field to play a game for the second string down at Penzance.

If the second string can't compete with the top boys in Peninsula west how are they supposed to supplement the first team playing a much much higher level.

Like I said timing and the way the decision came to light was awful, but from a footballing perspective it makes sense
