As i said it looked a great side on paper. Tommy's testimonial was a great evening, especially for Tommy himself. I believe we (Falmouth won) against a County X1, perhaps you can enlighten me, did you have the line ups for that game? I took some set pieces that resulted in couple of goals,I think i did grab one myself. :)

Packet Report-Especially for you Anthony-LOL

"After 30 minutes Town restored their lead when Waddell found Reynolds wide on the left and from his flighted cross Mark Rapsey delighted the home crowd when his header sailed over Nute and into the net"

"Anthoney Reynolds whose pacey wing play posed problems for Cornwall showed great composure to crack in the 4th.on the turn past Dennis Annear"

"Reynolds had the Cornwall defence back pedalling from another run and it needed another fine save from Annear"

Tommy Matthews (No.6 shirt) Record at Falmouth (Previously at Porthleven-Penzance and Illogan RBL)

1978-79 Western League

1984-1994 S.Western League

460 Appearances 53 Goals

Missed only 27 games in Ten seasons

NO Red Cards - 2 Bookings

For the record Tommy said he deserved both one v Liskeard in the Cornwall Senior Cup final and the other in Essex when he clattered a bloke against Witham Town in the Vase when leading 2-1 with 10m.to go."I think he his still in the air now"

Great cross that was Renno!! Cheers mate. :-). Still reckon Fordys own goal was mine as well Mike!?! Had a nick on it!!! :-) great result and night for a great player and one of the nicest gentleman in Cornish football history!! Remember the "Matthews semi final" at Blazey when we beat Torpoint 3-0 in the SWL cup. Tommy had a couple including an outrageous overhead kick! Not bad for a big centre half!! Was injured that night, remember jumping up when Tommy scored that one and hot tea went all over my lap!! Bollocks were burning for days but well worth it to see that!! # Tom Town legend.

Interesting stuff as always Mike . Surely you've got a book in you about the history of Falmouth Town .

Thanks Ian-I have the material if someone would like the challenge.

It would be too much hassle for me at my age.

If you got to the Falmouth Town AFC website

then move from Club-History-Results Data Base

Choose your season and there is very interesting information especially the early years.

This was compiled by Frank Thomas with the material supplied by Gary Harrington, Tony Pearce and myself.

There is still much to add however.

Think you're right actually Noah, now I think about it!!! Sorry, the memory ain't too great these days to be honest! I remember games and goals from 30 years ago and forget ones from last season!!! And I only played 4 games!!!? :-). Never forget Toms bicycle kick though or me scolded sack for that matter!!! :-)

Hi Noah, sorry! Was watching my second home Holland scrape a win!! I'm on 1979 competitive goals in adult football mate. Wish friendlies and youth football were allowed, would have topped 3000 by now!?! Not kicked a ball for 10 months due to a bad knee injury at the start of last season but hoping to try and have one more if possible although I got my doubts, it's taking forever! No fun being old mate. :-(
