Redruth Utd Res 3 (2) Storm 1 (0)

Storm scorer - Mitchell

The decision to change ends at the toss gave the home side the advantage of not having the sun glaring in their eyes, but with that said, Redruth were clearly fired up for this game and came flying out of the starting blocks far quicker than we did. Barrie Wyatt's movement up front caused problems immediately and allowed the Redruth midfield more time and space on the ball than they should have had.

Redruth went 1-0 up after just 10 minutes when a cut back from the byline ricocheted off the unfortunate Penna and diverted in at the near post (seriously Mitchy, he's claiming that? and you are giving it to him?!) They went two up just 5 minutes later when Dower hit a sweet first time volley right footed across goal from just inside the area.

Storm created chances of their own with both Chilman and Mitchell unable to convert good opportunities and a strong penalty claim turned down whilst Redruth continued to threaten the Storm goal but despite the open game, that completed the scoring for the first half.

After the break, we had a ten minute spell of nice football that led to opportunities, one of which David Mitchell finished after a chipped through ball in to his path. Some more open play saw chances come and go at both ends, none of which got converted thanks to some wasteful finishing and some inspired keeping from both men between the sticks. As we pushed forward more in search of an equaliser we were always going to expose ourselves to the counter. Wyatt picked the ball up in the inside left position and a strong run in to the box led to a fiercely hit shot past the keeper to restore Redruth's 2 goal advantage.

Pushing men forward in the last quarter, the game became much scrappier as we were unable to find any further ways past a stubborn United defence. Well played to the Redruth boys and looking forward to the rematch a week Saturday.

Yes Nigel, enjoyed my 2nd trip to Reen and my 1st T2 game. Sorry for mixing the teams up!

Will keep a watch on both (promoted) sides to see how you progress and will try to get to Chasewater sometime, maybe a weekday evening later in the season when, no doubt, there will be plenty of re-arranged games.

Best wishes for the season.
