    Mousehole Management

Firstly thank you all for the kind words, they are great to hear. At least better than the people that fish, bitter or jealous of progression. Topcat1, it is a known fact throughout the club that just over 2 weeks ago, I stepped down as the first team manager and for the following reasons: 1, my wife is heavily pregnant and we are about to have our first child in the next few weeks 2, as people that have been in management know, it takes up the majority of the week and with the above and work commitments, it will be too much for me and my family over the next few years. 3, we are in a position at the club with JB there, that I feel I can step down and still leave the club in great hands (rather than leave us in the sh!t) Although bad timing on my part, being just over a week before the start of the season, there has been a seamless transfer from myself to JB and KL, so the club and I didn't feel the need to make anything public at that time. However, there are now a few questions being asked (of course) and I feel as though I needed to respond and put these questions to bed. The progression and ambition that the club have is fantastic and is great to be apart of in whichever capacity I am required. I will remain with the club as a senior player and will assist JB and Kev however they require me to, I am just stepping back from the day-to-day duties. I wish to thank everyone who has supported, helped and played under me in my tenure over the past months, but whilst my fingers are still straight and my knee's still able to bend I wish to stay playing (and not managing) for as long as I can. One thing I wont do, is get into a slanging match or an argument about what's right/wrong on a public forum, so this will be my one and only response to this thread. Thanks SPB

    When we were young

Just watched Big Match revisited on BT West Ham v Everton , from April 1977 , Goalkeepers without gloves , one sub , Muddy goal areas ,. Big surprise yellow cards ? Two replays of a Beckham type lob , and indirect free kick for the keeper taking to many steps , back passes ( Liverpool trade mark ) . No arguments with the ref , no falling or rolling around after a foul , players allowed to stay on the pitch after treatment . Players here like Brooking , Devonshire , Pop Robson , Latchford , Bonds , doing the business on a pitch which wouldn't be seen now days , No pushing shoving berating the officials . A big difference to today with a More technical game and better stadia and petulant behaviour ,. This and MOTD apart from Sportsnight was the only football you could see the only live game was the FA cup final or the occasional international game . Not all progress in football has been good .

To quote a refβ€˜s pre match instructions to linos "I'd rather have a late and controversial flag than a controversial goal". As linos we can never win, mistakes do get made but those who moan should come and have a go with the flag before they criticise. Deciding if a player is 'active' and 'interferring', sometimes when you're on the run, is not always an easy call, better to pause a moment to consider the decision than to flag immediately. It's the same with 'has the ball crossed the line', which is an easy one for the lino to cheat on if he is that way inclined, but what's the point? This is local club football, not the Premier League, let's get behind the volunteers who make it happen and appreciate what they give to the game. Unless we want to lose more volunteer linos from the game, the abuse has got to stop!

Wasn't there so can't comment on off or on , but refs do instruct Lino's to give a late flag the only time when they want a quick one is if their could be a clash with the keeper to save injury , As for your lino Adrian one of the best and a good bloke , but even he gets moaned at trust me we have spoke about this during games , please this season can we give club Lino's or assistants as they like us to be called a break , none of us do it to get grief or to mess up a game of football but because we want to put something back into the game we love , for if we are lucky we might get a drink after the game , most times it costs us money to do a job nobody wants but everyone can do better and we have to attend a refresher course and take a multi choice 40 questions at the end which you have to have 75% to pass , just remember at combo you get fined for not having a registered lino , we all like banter but abuse we don't .

    St blazey

Management takes up a lot of hours in the week. I take my hat off to anyone that does it as it's a difficult job. Haven't seen Blazey play but give the lad a chance. It's only 3 games in!

    St blazey

Understand your frustrations Two Footed after the teams that Blazey have had over the years under Trev and even before that with the likes of Wacko. There are a lot of big cornish clubs in the same boat though mate, the likes of Falmouth, Liskeard, Newquay were all huge once as well. All you can do is start again, try and rebuild, it could take time maybe or you might get a great little side together and just click such as the likes of Godolphin and Sticker have done over recent years. I've got to be honest i have been paid enough money over the years to play football and have taken whats been offered without much of a thought which you do as a player to be honest whether you are from Devon or Cornwall!. It's not until you are old and grey you appreciate the time and money that goes into a club and all the hard work by people who just love their club and spend hours there for next to nothing most of the time. I think you've got to give young managers like Westy at Falmouth who is Town through and through and Macca at Newquay the chance to build their own teams and start again. In 10 years time Blazey could be right back up there again, put the money into the facilities as much as the team and players will come and hopefully the good local lads as well. Try and get behind these enthusiastic young managers and support them, three games is a long time in football these days it seems. Would'nt say Blazey will ever be a laughing stock ex-chairman, you've achieved more than most over the years and are a sleeping giant who im sure will be awoken sooner rather than later. Keep the faith as Jock Stein would say!!!

    Chacewater Reserves

Really sorry to hear that Nige, if a club like Chacewater has to pull a team out the league its a real sign of the times. Had many a battle on that lovely compact ground, especially as a schoolboy with Malabar, scary!! Got to be one of the best and charasmatic venues in junior football, better than a lot of Combo grounds in my opinion. Some really top people at the club as well, no more so than yourself Nige. My dad played there as a nipper in the fifties and ive heard some great stories! Had some brilliant teams there over the years, hope you continue to have success with the first team mate.

All you had to say was your wife is carrying your first child - who cares about football or anything else then. Look after your missus and child before all else is the way to go.....well done from me.

A fair and honest statement Chappy..good for you. Top keeper and nice guy. Lets hope the whole squad gets the backing and support it needs.

Very big and also very important decision to make.. you've done amazingly well with coping and trying to do two jobs and should be applauded. Good luck for the rest of the season

With regards to the ECPL being two leagues - I can't see how merging the leagues and making teams like (no offence) Nanpean travelling to Torpoint reserves will benefit anyone; then you would be getting 15-0 score-lines on a weekly basis! BUT - I do agree with most on here that firstly, there has to be greater consequences for 'not turning up' AND if you finish bottom/second from bottom (apparently) 9 seasons in a row - regardless of the history or hard work off the pitch - you have to be relegated!

I learn no end of new slang on here. This one went right over my head until Dave drew my attention to it. So off to the Urban Dictionary once again. I would never have believed that this simple word could have so many unsavoury meanings. I wonder which one he meant!

    St blazey

St Blazey are struggling but they are trying, as is their manager and players. Lots of clubs are but are not 'shackled' by how good they were 20 years ago Given a chance they will get it together and good luck to them.

Football won't improve until they get a local team with players who want to play for st blazey and are not there just to pick up their packet and return back to plymouth. When will st blazey learn?

    FREE FOOTBALL THIS SATURDAY.

Today we had 86 in the ground after 20 minutes. Several came in later. Plus several others watching from upstairs. Not bad when you consider the poor results the last few years. Crowds last year had dropped to below 50. So probably double what we had at the end of last season. The tea hut was busy. The 50-50 took enough for 3 cash prizes. One person even signed up for a new advertising board. Fantastic stuff. The horse racing after the game made some good money for the club, our charity and the lucky winning punters. Not the result we wanted on the pitch but improvement off it. Rome wasn't built in a day. Thankyou to everyone who came to watch.

2 no-shows in the first 2 weeks of the season. Is this really "Senior Football"? For God's sake, cut adrift the dead wood and look to reorganize the structure of the league!

I think most people involved with football play , support or volunteer to escape for a few hours each week , haven't come across any lino with a win at all costs on my travels , you are lucky to still be young enough to play and I would play as long as you can , as it is a long time retired , I know from personal experience . The boot being on the other foot or other side of the line how many players claim for every throw , corner , free kick gain yards for throw ins ect ect ? And then when it goes against them you would think the world was ending and you get it in the neck from doubting your parentage to the C word and that isn't cheat , personally have been threatened in years gone by a few years back was called a paedo , for flagging someone offside . It has got better and refs will tell the skippers before they kick off we are there to assist him not for the benefit of our home clubs , we all have tolerance levels and all can make mistakes , but also a ref can over rule any descions we make as he can be better placed to see what has happened . Personally I considered giving up the flag about three seasons ago , but what helped was the young players coming through and also the football improving in combo , and also the refs and other clubs Lino's at least we can talk during and after the game , some would be glad if I did but while my health allows I will carry on for a bit longer , as the majority of the time I enjoy the small part I play in our local game .

Could I please remind you that any adverse remarks made towards you were in response to your constant unwarranted criticism of the club, the CCFA the SWPL, and most other bodies trying to do some good for the game. No one gets it right all the time but at least they're spending their spare time having a go. An olive branch has recently been extended to you by the officers of Falmouth Town which you have declined. This olive branch is still there in the hope that you may put your talents to good use at the club you "support". You quite rightly say that you can travel to any place you choose and I'm sure Mousehole are extremely friendly and most hospitable. I would like to add my best wishes to Mousehole where my father played for many happy years and I spent many hours watching him. I'd like to take him down this season to watch a game or two.

Well, you could apply that logic to half the topics on here. If you don't want to answer the question you don't have to ( even if you know the answer )

Completely agree with the last post. I run the line regularly, and just do my best (keep up with play, ball over the touchline, off-sides, corners etc). It is quite a difficult job at times. Don't cheat, hate cheating. But what sticks in my mind is the general lack of understanding of the laws of the game by the vast majority of players. Doh.

Big Al can make it to Mousehole a few times this season but can never make Falmouth on time for kick off!!! I'm sure Town will really miss your fantastic support and encouragement! πŸ™„

    SWPL - Tuesday August 15th 2017

Newquay swooped and summoned Tornado away from St. Blazey with a gift wrapped and signed edition of Akon's greatest hits. The efforts that some clubs go to to appeal to the hearts of targets is incredible. Well done Newquay.

    Budget v success ???

IF a club from the SWPL took promotion each year then surey the tides will turn geographicaly. It will no longer be all Bristol based sides in that league and will allow teams not usually accociated with, lets say the top six, to push on and may be have a go themselves. Mousehole for instance are making big waves and I bet, given the chance of promotion in two, three or four years time they would love to be in a postion to 'give it a go' . I applaud any club willing to take the plunge

Arsenal were great at everything apart from scoring. Lacked a bit of luck at times, but Stoke deserved the win, game plan worked. It's a game plan Arsenal has faced many times before, and will do again. They have to be better at working out the answer. Brought Giroud on for last 20 (good idea, be more direct), and put about 3 crosses in (what's the point)?? Each time he created havoc, with one header missing by a whisker. I don't get it. Wenger looks frustrated, but can't work out if they are following his orders, or not. Do they still not realise that being a goal down with time running out, having the ball and passing it intricately between them for several minutes won't help. Getting it in the box and creating maybe a chance could do it!

Yes excellent win for the boys today. Really pleased for Kevin getting his first win especially with several key players out. I'll be in Bournmouth next weekend watching City so will miss the Exmouth game so will be looking out for your report on the forum. I'll be at Helston on Tuesday to hopefully watch Kayne Trevaskis and our new boy Ed give Tom Smith the runaround.

Nothing to do with the league, it's down to the clubs to be prepared to do the travelling. When they join the league they know what is involved. One prime example st columb major duchy 2 travel to stoke Climsland which is a 90 mile round. Don't hear clubs moaning from the duchy league

    Truro City v Bath City

Tonight see's the return of the Romans to Cornwall as Truro City take on Bath City kick off 7.45. Perfect evening for the game and I am looking forward to meeting up with former Truro City legend Andy Watkins making a welcome return to Treyew Road. Many of you elder generation will remember Andy in his younger days playing in the old South Western League for Bodmin Town and I believe St Blazey. A player with a lot of talent but never quite made it at the highest level. Usually a close call between these two team and I am not expecting anything different tonight.

Jaime Mooney is our linesman. At the end of the day a linesman can only give what they see and from different angles on the pitch there will always be a different opinion of is he off or onside from our dug out he looked off side . If st day had taken there chances and won nothing would have been said about it anyone that thinks they can be a better linesman should go on the course and help a club out

There is undoubtedly huge expectation at Parkway this season. As a relative newcomer to non League football my question is 'why isn't this the norm?' What kind of sportsmen/women or owners or anyone involved in sport do not want to compete at the highest possible level? The Parkway and Exmouth Boards were the only ones that showed any cojones last season and I guess will be the only two this year. Play to win and win to get promoted - or don't bother playing at all.
